    Fender MIJ FOTO FLAME value?

Maybe it was simpler than I imagine but it seems like it would be a pain to apply a veneer to an entire neck like that

Double Bass Solid hand crafted rosewood double bass

It has been done on violins although I think every one I've seen still uses a spruce top. I've never heard one in person so not sure how it affects tone. As mentioned above you probably wouldn't be able to find lumber large enough to do a bass like this. I've never seen it done but it might...

    Some Brian Bromberg

Great player, I really dig the tone of his upright with slammed action. It's really unique and opens up a lot of technical possibilities on the instrument like tapping. I've read he pursued such a unique setup after sustaining hand injuries.

    Best P pickup for flats

Those strings are very dark. Have you tried making adjustments at the amp to compensate? You could also change the value of the tone cap. Personally I'd try those things before swapping out the pickup but there are lots of good recommendations here if you do need to go that far.

I'd be pretty annoyed by such a goofy mistake on a bass that expensive.

Floor fan for hot gigs recommendation please

I have a Dewalt battery powered fan that has come in handy a few times. It will run for around 3 hours on a full charge.

Just when you thought you'd seen it all...relic stickers!

Isn't that how the Martin 'Street' guitars are made? They don't actually apply any relicing to the wood, it's all a sticker or print or whatever.

    Double Bass portable recorder

I use an H6. You can power it with a small USB power bank without batteries. If I'm recording a rehearsal I power it that way. You can also use rechargeable AA batteries.

    The Fretless Club (Part IV)

They're great to work with, I think the build only took around 8-10 weeks. It was surprisingly fast. This one has a hide head and simple brass tone ring to keep it pretty plunky sounding with nylon strings. I also have a fretted Pisgah with a Dobson tone ring and metal strings, it's a great...

    The Fretless Club (Part IV)

No you can play as far up as you want although the sustain naturally drops off considerably on these instruments as you move further up. The transition between metal and richlite is seamless I can't feel it at all. That's something I had wondered about. That said I'm mostly playing East KY...

    Mesa TT-800 vs D-800+ & Bass 800D/BD-800

The TT-800's DI is post-master volume so if you change the volume on stage it will change at the desk. It works that way because of the dual channels.

Official Mesa Boogie Subway Series Club

I've tried this on the TT and didn't have much luck. A little disappointing because I like "the thing" that happens when the master gets turned up loud but I'm not always in a situation where that can happen. I can't recall any bass amps with the feature but a number of modern guitar amps have...

    Warwick Thumb versus Peavey Cirrus

It would be the Warwick for me, no question. Just be sure the ergonomics work for your body, that's always the sticking point with the Thumb.

Help me ID this lefty Fender "Fool" Bass VI — have i bought a white elephant

Squier didn't make a lefty VI and the headstock isn't a Fender design so it's not simply a repaint. Bass VI necks are not super common so you can probably figure out where it came from assuming the headstock hasn't been reshaped. Is it possible the body is a Jaguar guitar body?

Double Bass Buffer for my Upton Solo Piezo

I keep the Upton pickup in my bag as a backup but have always found it kind of weird sounding unless you get it just right. As someone above mentioned, having it fairly loose in the wing with the logo down has also been the best sounding setup on my bass. I could generally get it sounding okay...

The Slate Truck: an affordable, basic vehicle that's made in the U.S. - and it's an EV.

Not something I'd buy but it will be interesting to see if they can actually deliver trucks and how the market will receive them. There have been a lot of people online loudly asking for a truck like this for years.

    NAD. TT/800

I've been using the TT for awhile and like it pretty well. I run the Boogie channel similar to your settings but with Deep off and the bass boosted to compensate. I think that channel benefits from having the gain way up like you have it. The amp sounds substantially better when you get the...

Yeah it's through body. The long scale B string didn't work though.

Does anyone make a 6 string set for a medium scale bass?

Galli strings makes them. That's what came on my 31" six string from Manne, they're nice strings. I'd recommend the set with the .35 C string which is something I'm not sure anyone else makes but feels/sounds awesome at shorter scales...

Double Bass Poll on use of tablets / Ipads

I'm not a great player by any stretch of the imagination and don't have hundreds of tunes memorized so I use charts for stuff I don't know. It doesn't bruise my ego. It's more fun playing stuff I have memorized for sure but I usually don't know every tune called on a gig. Like anything else...

Fretless Players: Does Switching to a Multiscale Bass affect your Intonation?

I hear where you're coming from but I think you might be surprised how quickly you'd adjust to it. It's definitely more complex than having all the strings at the same string length but it's still just a matter of developing muscle memory and hearing notes/intervals. I'm not a multiscale guy...

Double Bass Micro fingering hand adjustments

I don't think it's really a one or the other type of situation. The example you give where you shift and then check tuning without micro-shifting and repeat if you're off is part of the process towards making the, realistically necessary, micro-shifts smaller and more seamless as Chris cited in...

Fretless Players: Does Switching to a Multiscale Bass affect your Intonation?

Once you get the hang of playing a fretless instrument in tune you'd be surprised how quickly you can play other fretless instruments of varying scale lengths in tune. You'll naturally adjust to things like that very quickly. I've never played a fretless multiscale but I don't think it would...

    Set it and forget it?

I used to be into absurdly low action, think Victor Wooten, and that type of setup would require pretty routine adjustment to keep things in check. With normal action I rarely have to touch things.

    Piezo bridge with a pick?

On my bass it sounds pretty much exactly how you'd expect a piezo played with a pick to sound. I don't really think it sounds like an unplugged bass, the piezo sound is kind of its own thing. Personally I don't find the piezo sound all that different from a pickup or compelling once it is in...

Swan Custom Bass Arrived with Finish Issues and Irregular Side Dots: Looking for Professional Opinions

I don't understand how the same people could build that bass and botch the side dots so badly. What are they anyway? Having dots misaligned is one thing but I don't understand how that shape in the first pictures could be so irregular yet seemingly filled cleanly. At first I also thought they...
