Reasons to tell people why you're no longer in a band

We separated due to creative differences, and by that I mean there is absolutely no creative outlet for a married couple who gets excited over window drapes.

    1 Finger or 2

I use up to three when doing 16th/32nd notes at high BPMs (I play a decent amount of metal)...and if you count the thumb I'm up to 4 fingers

How to peacefully get members to adopt to modern live sound/recording techniques.

I agree with you until you brought up the 7, 8, 9 string guitars. I'll say that 9 is certainly overkill, and when you hit the bass octaves it's a little...weird and not entirely necessary. However, if you're staying in the range of a guitar and not a bass, proper equipment can definitely make...

How to peacefully get members to adopt to modern live sound/recording techniques.

It sounds like he's honestly just being stubborn for stubborn's sake, especially if he was unknowingly running mono the whole time before all of this. There's not much you can do but just talk to him about it or maybe have the whole band confront him. I had a similar thing in a recording...

    Warwick corvette

Given the rockbass bit is obviously blacked out, I'm not sure I'd trust the vendor. I'm sure you'll get the bass and all...I just wouldn't want to give someone like that my money. It's possible they did it on their own so when playing live people were under the impression it was genuine, but...

Ampeg PF 800 vs Fender Rumble v3 500

I'm wondering what people's opinion on this are. I'm trying to decide between a fender rumble v3 500 w/ the 2x10 extension cab, or the PF 800 with a single 2x10. They're both pretty light/movable, though the fender in two pieces would be a bit more than the ampeg. Traditionally, the ampeg...

How hard is it to load a 100lb cab?

To contrast the old folks chiming in: I'm 26, and f*** a 100lb cab. I have no interest in showing off how tough I am. I'm in near perfect health and in shape, but with options that sound great and are < 50lbs, I'll pass. I've owned both an 8x10 and a 76lb old fender combo. Not worth it.

How hard is it to load a 100lb cab?

First time you load it: "It's not so bad" Second time you load it: "Yeah I guess this thing is a beast, pretty heavy haha" Third Time: "It's a pain but wow is it sturdy" Fourth Time: "This is really a b*tch" Fifth Time: "I should sell this and get a rumble" Exp: Owned an 8x10 for years

    Cleaning an Unfinished Maple Neck

EDIT: I'm concered about the *Fretboard* not the neck itself. I've got a somewhat rare configuration of the Brice HXB 405 (rondo music brand) and it's got an unfinished maple neck. Yes, I'm positive there's no finish. Damn thing gets full of finger gunk fast. I'm afraid to use any sort of...

    this oughta be fun

Jaco, Wooten, Miller, I'm tempted to say NHOP but that would bring in double bass players and then this would get REALLY messy. I guess I'd say JPJ or Paul Jackson for the 4th. Maybe thundercat

String life: how long do you rock a set?

Guess I've never been a big P-bass guy, or a big flats guy, so I have no idea how that would turn out. But I can imagine it'd be golden for a lot of country.

String life: how long do you rock a set?

You are an absolute legend. I can't for the life of me imagine why this would be preferred. I guess for a older school jazz sound this would be alright, as you'd want a muddled tone. What else is this good for?

String life: how long do you rock a set?

I change them less often than I should, and usually do so out of being upset they sound so dead and dull. I play nickel wound exclusively. In all likelihood I change strings every 3 months or so, but my fingers sweat and they're pretty damn dead at that point. I should be doing it at least...

Pairing 1000W amp with 400W cab

Pairing 1000W amp with 400W cab

***raises hand*** I've tried a few, and while they don't sound horrible sitting in the guitar shop, Behringer has a long history of QC issues and misleading marketing. There are other affordable options that don't come with the risk factor. I will never give them my money again unless it's in...

    Is there a 4 string B Bass?

I played a 4 string in a death metal group who dropped down to A# on the lowest string. Just adjust string gauge and down tune. It isn't that hard. Bridge adjustment and nut filing may be a necessity if you want to put a "real" B string on there though.

Pairing 1000W amp with 400W cab

#1. Don't buy a bugera. These are just rebranded behringer products, built to the same quality with vintage looking appearance. #2. You're never going to control the exact wattage going through the amp. And knowing Bugera/Behringer, the 1000w claim likely isn't entirely accurate, so you're...

    Have you found the one?

I've yet to find her, though a few have come close. The higher end Ibanez BTB series are incredible, and the german $$ corvettes are unreal. Also, a good PJ bass is like butter. Never had the defining "one" though.

Valve watts - how many do you need?!?

While playing live you can get away with as low as 100w if you're going through a PA, for rehearsal and non-PA situations you'll need at the very least 250w. With a tube amp you may be able to go a touch lower, but you do risk not being heard. I'm rarely comfortable live unless I have at least...

    Would you?

50 songs? In 5 weeks? Even with something as simple as country that's a crap load of material to get down if you have a job. If you love country and this looks bright, sure...but I probably wouldn't do it.

    Fender Rumble v3 500 vs Hartke HD500

Yeah I was thinking if I picked up the combo i'd go for the 115 extension. Glad to hear it treats you well. Altogether it makes for a damn cheap full stack, and from what I can tell a hell of a sound.

    Fender Rumble v3 500 vs Hartke HD500

I've cranked the rumble, these things are LOUD for 350w. But yeah, I'd look into getting an extension cab eventually.

    Fender Rumble v3 500 vs Hartke HD500

Now you guys talking about the thick and punchy tone of the hartke are making me reconsider... I don't know if I'm comfortable playing live in a metal band with 250w though...and I could always EQ the crap out of the rumble

    Fender Rumble v3 500 vs Hartke HD500

Yeah, I play a lot of genres but right now metal is my main one, and I'd always like the option to keep up with high gain guitars and loud as F*** drums. I think I decided on the fender.

    Fender Rumble v3 500 vs Hartke HD500

    Why bother owning an amp

I don't mind going through the PA, but its nice to have my amp behind me as a monitor. Regardless, you need an amp for rehearsal. Without rehearsal I'd likely just bring my sansamp and plug in that way.

    Fender Rumble v3 500 vs Hartke HD500

I've been doing some searching and its come down to the two listed above. The rumble 500 and the hartke hd500. They both get outstanding reviews, and they're both what I'm looking for. Powerful, lightweight, great tone, and gig worthy. They're identical in price. They both peak at 500w, though...

I've been looking at this amp for some time now, it seems like a cool little rig. I'm curious if anyone has played around with it, only a few reviews comment on its volume capabilities and they seem to be mixed. Anyone have experience playing this with a live drummer w/o going DI? I can get...

Is Simple The Way To Go?

There can obviously be more minimal, but a sansamp is a best friend and a tuner is...well, a tuner. I'm more trying to communicate the less is more message, and I'm wondering if anyone disagrees. I've seen countless bassists on stage with a full pedal board of stuff.
