The stage has fallen silent: RIP JRA

it's getting harder to find genuinely positive and constructive people in the world these days. and JRA always seemed to be supportive and kind in every interaction on TalkBass. RIP Jim. Hope you are adding some FUNKY deep pockets to that great gig in the sky!

What ear protection are you using?

+1 for Westone! i like that you can purchase various different db filters. i use the 15s for drums and 8s for bass. best not to skimp on ear protection, especially with so many great options these days!

Who is the "most watchable" drummer?

as a kid, i loved watching terry bozzio, neil peart, tony williams. these days, i'm really diggin adam deitch, alan hertz, nate smith, and benny greb, and the list goes on.... too many amazing options to choose from! oh, and Joe Russo is like a human version of Animal from the muppets.

Compact FRFR cabinet for monitoring and PA

....and while the QSC K-series is a preferred unit, I've had pretty good experience with my CP12 for similar applications. a bit easier on the pocketbook, and a slightly more compact design. it might not cover as much low end, but works well in plenty of smaller room applications.

The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

i'm all in for a vocal preamp! i get why you might not want to dive into effects processing, but maybe an efx loop so users could add some flexibility. ...shades of Echomaster

    The Wildcard...

For wildcard, my go-to is Red Panda i frequently remove my tensor from my board to make room for other stuff, but then i always put it back on because i miss what it does., especially with an expression pedal.

What 2 or 3 Pedals are a MUST HAVE?

if i had to keep it to 2-3 (and assuming my base-tone is covered via amp/DI/comp as desired) i'd probably go with: envelope filter (i like the josh-wah or Fwonkbeta) Octave pedal (i like the MXR options) dirt/boost (i like Sushi Box preamps or a TC Spark, or pork/pickle) if no compressor in...

Hofner hate! Tell me why you hate or love Hofner basses

my good buddy has two cheap Jay Turser versions, and he is one of the funkiest bass players i know. he also has some of the most unique playing technique so i think the tighter string spacing works in his favor. but it's a great reminder every time I play with him that the truly talented...

Drummer noodling between songs at rehearsal!!!

drummer here.... if the drummer is working on specific parts of tunes, maybe engage with them about it, to understand what they are working on. if the drummer is tuning/tweaking the drums constantly, maybe it is an effort for them to try to get their kit tuned up to the room (there's a time and...

The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

From what I've read here, More doesn't really break up, it's more of a clean headroom preamp to just give you more of whatever you run into it. More -> Elementary sounds interesting, but i have not first-hand experience with those pedals, so not sure Watt it will sound like. maybe others will...

The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

yes, i think there can be a point of diminished returns, especially if you are not keeping gain stages in check. my current board has a UA at the front and Finally at the end. i find that the UA provides enough saturation and tone shaping to help feed everything down-chain, the Finally is the...

The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

the Finally is my all-time favorite (replacing my space heater), and i don't even have the newer version with the hpf. seems like you are wanting More tube goodness, so perhaps that's the answer ;)

The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

i don't have either More or Greenhouse, but i think you can't go wrong either way. Greenhouse could give you more versatility, especially if you want to add other pedals into the loop, but folks seem to really love the MORE-ness. maybe get both and flip the one you don't prefer...?

Bobby Vega's (KVHW) messing with my head...

I am thoroughly enjoying this in-depth analysis of an improvised jam from 27 years ago! They were definitely loose back then, and taking a lot of risks on stage. some nights they were extremely tight, and some nights they were less so. so grateful for all the quality recordings of this band...

Bobby Vega's (KVHW) messing with my head...

the drummer: Alan Hertz Alan used to (and still does) throw long syncopated phrases all over the place to keep the rhythm section on their toes. those Spring 98 shows were some of my favorite live shows ever (to date). so much freedom and energy. And Bobby was at the center of it all, keeping...

Phil Lesh Appreciation Society: Enter the Philzone... v2.0

and i wonder if my lack of first-hand experience (only recordings for reference) and feelings of excitement colored my impressions at the D&C shows. there's a particular crispness on those late 79 recordings that sticks out to me though. i'm sure it was a combination of factors, including the...

Phil Lesh Appreciation Society: Enter the Philzone... v2.0

Juan Alderete Reverb Shop - Coming Soon

Juan and (Nick) turned me on to so many awesome pedals on their YT channel. but more importantly, they showed the musicality of the pedals, and how they work individually and with others....it's so good to see him again, and i hope the sale is a big success for him and his family.

I'm so sorry Nathan, this is just terrible. I am dealing with much of the same reality in my line of work, and i am really worried for my industry as well. (we've actually paused all imports from China temporarily, due to the high tariff rates, and uncertain conditions moving forward). It's...

    Help! New to bass.

welcome to TalkBass! you've found the right spot to gain a lot of information about the bass. this does seem like an atypical first bass, mostly considering the string gauge vs scale length as you are becoming more comfortable with the instrument. i'm sure you could get your bass set up...
