Then I routed a 1/4" roundover on both sides:

Holy wormholes Batman!

This is unbelievably cool... I'm not sure on the Squier neck (I say that from a complete lack of experience... I only know what I've heard and rumors fly).... I've only played the Mexican Fender labled re-issues, but I've liked the necks on those.

The necks on the Bronco basses are actually surprisingly nice, if they don't require fretwork. They are nice and fat, with a matte finish, they are really nice to play. My neck has been very stable, but I don't know other people's experiences with them, because they are one piece necks.

RB, love the wood this will be great! What kind of tuners did you put on the Bronco neck? They look great and full size.
I got a new Bronco for $50 and put a white Duo-Rail pickup in it (dual humbucking) and it sounds great. Dead quiet and punchy. Straight drop in, what an improvement!
Keep up the good work!

I'm not sure what they are, but I got this one from Craigslist, and they were already on there when I bought it.

This is an early model (I think 1997) and the quality of the neck is quite good, really. I don't know for sure what you mean by one-piece, but it does have a separate piece of maple for the fretboard, if that's what you're referring to. The frets don't need any work at all, which is a bonus!

Well, that's certainly different than mine! I have a 2011, purchased brand new and it is a 1-piece maple neck with a skunk stripe. I guess they changed the manufacturing process after a while?

I believe they did. It also depends what factory (country) it was made in, as they each have their own standards and practices. Mine was made in Taiwan in 1997. The Taiwanese Squiers can be hit or miss from what I understand, but this one was a hit (at least where the neck is concerned).

short scale? the first bass i ever built was like this one, used gorriila glue to laminate a bunch of maple, carved a body, bolted a 1974 fender short scale neck to it and ran a single bart j bass pickup straight to a 1/4" cable. no pots. your is just amazing. love those wormholes. sure you didnt shoot it with a shotgun???:)

That could be the difference. Mine is a 2011 with the different tuners, one piece neck and it was made in Indonesia I believe. Mine is also a hit, it weighs about 6 pounds, the neck is perfect, balance is perfect and it came setup perfectly. I had to pick it from a group of about 3, this was the best one and it came with a new gigbag. I love the little bass, definitely something different for the collection.

Back OT, the build is comeing along nicely, that will be one sweet mustang. Are you going to fill the holes or are you just going to finish over them?

Nearly 20 years ago, missus and I lived in a two-century old New England carriage house whose interior was partially paneled with old barnboard. It remains one of our favorite places to have dwelled.

+ I love Mustangs

= This build is the shizznit.

I used a Strat neck pocket template for a Mustang neck, I had to route one side and shift it over about 1/16 of an inch because it is slightly wider than a Strat neck, but the taper and heal shape was a perfect fit.

YES!!! Please post pix of the rest of the neck so we can see how it "stacks up" with the Strat!
