$1000 to spend on a cab

If your 500w head into an efficient 212 cannot get it done against a 30watt combo and a half stack, tell your guitarists to tuck 'em back in their trousers and turn their amps down, because you're all gonna be fitted for miracle ears in short time.
I run my TH500 into a TC K212 (8 ohms cab, effectively halving my amp output) and I can barely get it past halfway before I'm drowning out two 30w tube combos, and a hard hitting drummer.
You could get TWO K212's for that 1G asking price, have enough left over for speakon cables, and rock like crazy at full 500w

I know that's a non-answer, but it really depends. I've got four 1x12" and utilizing two is typically enough in most settings with my TH500.
Except with my rock band with two loud guitarists. So I use a second amp (GK MB500) driving another cab or two to give me the SPL needed.
I've owned several 2x10" cabs in the past (Hartke, Acme) and while they were fine in their element, I would not rely on them in a high volume environment. Even two of them.

Another question you have to answer for yourself:
Do you have a transportation for a big cab? The recommendations of 2x15", 6x10" and 8x10" are all right on the mark IMO, because carrying a big enclosure typically means you'll always have enough rig for the gig. But can you transport it?
Yes, won't be a problem. I have 3 other strapping lads in the band whom I will put to work helping the bass player. Also, this is Tennessee, we have 4WD trucks - trailers - and southern grit/determination.
Seriously though, I have a 4ohm GK Neo 212 that is super light that I can use for smaller & lower volume applications. The cabinet I want to get will 90% of the time be at our rehearsal space. I won't have to worry about moving it much, and when I do, I will have help.
I'd get a Bergantino or a Schoreder, depending upon tonal preferences. 2x12, probably. My Schroeder 2x12 is absolutely enough for a two guitar rock band (was for years), but it's very mid-heavy, so YMMV with a more balanced cab.
I've had one before, well it was a 610 AV cabinet, but I think it's basically the same thing. I loved it with an SVT-CL.
I still want an SVT, but they're so heavy. I'm doing CrossFit and if I stick with it, maybe it won't be too heavy.
I'd buy 2 used Ampeg SVT 410HE's and stack 'em. You can get them inexpensively. Modular fridge, probably leave you with $400 left over for the bar. Source: I use this rig and it's fantastic.
Used Aggie GS212 will be around 500$, used GS410 around 700$ those are my favorite cabinets, I ended up using a GS412 mostly for show, the tone is incredible but the 212 would do the job at any indoor venue.

I don't know if they are still doing intro price but if they are, jump on it, it'll be under $1000. At this price it's only marginally more expensive than a Two10.
I ordered the first day they were available, Received it two days later, and gigged it for the first time last night. Incredible.
Speaker surface area isn't everything, but it's something--- a Four10 has about 40% more surface area than a 2x12 cab so it really puts out. Handles up to 1000W. Pretty. half the weight of conventional 4x10 cabs.

I'm loving my TC K210 cabs vertically stacked. I have gigged Berg, Epi, Aggie....these TC cabs deliver in every way. Huge bottom, clear, and light weight.
This is not my posting (I wouldn't sell this cab for this price) but i would jump on this deal:

Tons of great info given here, I really appreciate it. Sounds like lots of votes for quality 212 cabs, and that all 212s are not created equally, IE the quality ones paired with 500W will hang well and perform in a rock setting with two guitars.
