$1000 to spend on a cab

Seriously though, I have a 4ohm GK Neo 212 that is super light that I can use for smaller & lower volume applications. The cabinet I want to get will 90% of the time be at our rehearsal space. I won't have to worry about moving it much, and when I do, I will have help.

Do you like the GK cab? If so, why not just get the 412?

Yes, a quality 2x12 will DEFINITELY hang with any obnoxious drummer or guitarists, with 500W. What I see from this thread is that everybody has a cab they love, so thankfully we live in an age of a plethora of quality cabs. You have a lot of good choices. Still, I'd consider that Barefaced Four10. As I mentioned, a 4x10 has 38% more speaker surface area than a 2x12, and when that cab is a "super cab" it's something to behold. With your budget, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting an awesome cab. Enjoy whatever you get-- Id's say, for my personal opinion which is of course not definitive, in your price range Barefaced is king, regardless if you go Four10 or 2x12 (Super Twin, Big Twin, two Big Baby II's or 2 Super Compacts).

Just looked at the BF website, they have an introductory rate going on still. It looks to me like it's a little more than it was a week ago, but it's less that what it is going to be in about a week or less by about $144 USD if my math is correct. That's the nature of intro pricing, it doesn't last long. I'd pay regular price for that cab anyway even if there was no intro pricing. Not to nudge you lol but I think you can just go right on the site and click "buy" for either cloth grill or metal grill, and make your payment. Not sure if they have standing stock still but I got mine 2 days after clicking "buy". If you have to wait-- like I did for my One10-- also still worth it, totally.

Considering you specifically mentioned for rock I'd go a ampeg Classic cab. I used a 810e for a long time. When I got sick of moving it I got two 410he cabs and the horn (which the 810 doesn't have) was very much welcomed, when I got sick of moving that I sold one 410 and swapped the speakers in the other for more modern higher output speakers and found a happy medium. I honestly think no matter which cab you go with you'll be happier if you do a little research on speakers and find something suited to your sound. Most production cabs speakers are chosen because of thier cost not their performance. Which is why the greenboy/fearful/fearless cabs are so popular. Because there's no expense spared on the speakers. Unfortunately the only way to get a cab like that for a two guitar band for under a grand is to get the plans, buy the parts and build it yourself.

Okay, I've had both a GK Neo212, and a GK SBX810. The 212 could NOT provide the stage volume I needed, with 2 guitarists and a loud drummer. I switched to the 810 for stage volume, and yes, 810s was excessive. I now play an Ampeg 610, and that is plenty. I'd say a pair of 212s would be plenty. I would try a single first though, but not spend so much that 2 would push my budget.

IMO there is no better "bang for your buck" than one of the modern 212 cabs. Some of these are downright amazing and do go really low. To me, not much difference in sound as a 215. I am a convert to the 12s and I was a DIE HARD 15" speaker guy.
