Hey Dennis, sorry to hear about what you're going through--type I here, so I can relate. Glad to hear you're on the mend, and it's good to see you back on the boards. You are missed at the LOG, come over and say hello when you get a chance.:)

You got it. It has been a burden all the way around. Down to 1 bass one amp... but health is under control

I've owned and gigged three different 12" cabinets.

Avatar 112 - the one with the ceramic driver. It weighed about 45 pounds. Nice low end, smooth response overall. I liked having the two handles. Covered in rat fur. Loud enough for use in jazz or up against a grand piano played hard. I ran it with a SWR Bassic 350 (Redface) and that was a fabulous pairing with a Precision.

Epifani T-112 - I owned two of these. One was about as loud as the Avatar, two were fine with a typical head for hanging with any reasonable drummer. More interesting mids than the Avatar. Nice looking on stage. Around 40 pounds each, I grew very tired of the strap handle on top. Nice cabinet, well worth the going used rate of $300 each.

Fearful 12/6 - Current cabinet. I built the one I use, and it has the Eminence 6. It came in around 37 pounds. Deeper sounding than the Epifanis were, and I like the overall clarity a great deal. It can be pushed much harder than the Epifani cabinets, enough so that I can get about as loud with one as the two Epifanis! My experience is seemingly different then Ken's, the mids are smooth and the highs roll off nicely. I really do need to schlepp my little 12/6 over to Sheboygan and let Ken give it a whirl.

I take it no one has any real love for Aguilar.

Lots of love for Aguilar here! I previously used a Genz Neox 212 for my main rig with an Eden 1205 or 550. However, I recently discovered the joys of the Aguilar SL112 cabs with the Aguilar Tone Hammer 500. Haven't played anything else since! They are lightweight and loud. I'm not good at describing sounds with terms like "growl, zing, sizzle", etc. so all I can say is their lightweight and sound great. I'm sure they will sound even better once I get them properly broken in. I have probably only used them on 5 gigs or so.

I do have to say that the Epifani UL112 sounds even better and louder (I have one of these, too), but it is a little heavier. Those things seem to be out of stock everywhere!

Still hanging on to my Genz, Eden, and Alembic stuff, but pretty much exclusively going with the Aguilar rig right now.

Glad to hear you are doing better; happy hunting!

LDS (Low Down Sound) 12/6.... with the Faital mid driver (used by Roger Baer also above), and the same woofer (3012LF) used in the fEARful, it is basically a smoother, sweeter sounding 'fEARful' to my ear,

I replaced the horn tweeter in my Avatar 212 Neo with the Faital Pro 6PR150 and it is an amazing transformation. You can try that with a similar 112 cabinet.

I have two Aguilar SL 112's that I use every week. They are loud and light (25 pounds). I had an Epi UL 112 S1, and sold it. I found that the Aguilar SL 112's were more musical. Kjung has not reviewed them, but I love mine and always get compliments on my tone. On the down side, they cost $759 a piece. I have compared them to the DB 112's and they are very similar in sound, but the DB's can handle more wattage and are louder. I use mine for small to mid-sized venues. I had the so-called super cabs, and they needed a lot of power to show their superiority, so I sold them...no regrets.

Great My Funny Valentine.....that some serious musicianship all around. Very pleasant voice, and bass. Who was the singer?

Thanks. Singer is Claire Rifelj - she flat out kills. The version of Sunny is actually a slightly different band, though they all kind of blend together as I play in 5 different bands and mine is a collective so we kind of draw from the same pool of players. I've been playing with Claire for about 4 years now and she never ceases to amaze me.

Ive got a markbass 112 which, does the playing i do here in nyc. I tried my buddy Todd Johnson's Aguilar pair of neo 1x12 last month in yosemite california and they flat out blew my mb away in terms of fatness , both on his 6 string zon and my old jazz. I like the fearful and acoustic image i tried in houston tx but man those aguilar with the tone hammer sounded lovely clear with a two guitar drums bass setup playing standards. I played em for a week and i know what my next setup will be. Todd has a section here on ask an expert, maybe he will chime in. Definitely worth a look. Sorry for the lame typing from my iphone while riding uptown on the B train...ugh!

I'd go with Aguilar too. I have DB series 112 and it's best sounding cab I ever had. bit pricey maybe but nothing too much - and you have a truly amazing deep, great low end, yet detailed and articulated sound from a just single 12 box!
