12 year old know it all!...Not!

I'll hold my tongue on the "every kid gets a trophy" mantra. But suffice to say it's tiresome, and rarely accurate.

The kid was 12, said something that might be construed as disrespectful or at a 'peer' level with the OP (heaven forbid). But the OP, and adult, felt justified in saying something PURPOSEFULLY rude to the kid and his parent. Then went on TB to brag.

But we're being too harsh on the OP?
I don't have enough information to know if that is what actually went down.

Just regarding that part of your post:

That's a lot of information. I would be careful about posting that much personal detail about anyone.

No doubt the institutionalization of poverty and assistance is huge problem. I see it everyday. Sadly, it's far too complex and deep to fix by anything other than significant changes in educational policy and priority, among many other things. Far too big of a topic to delve into here. And another poster was right in that it really didn't have much to do with the initial OP.

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for
authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place
of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their
households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They
contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties
at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

Yep. Times change. People don't. :)

Again, if you read the OP, the child simply appeared to ask to tune the bass with his perfect pitch. The story as it's told doesn't seem to infer that he corrected the OP.

The kid just sounds like he was bragging a bit.....probably not "backhand" worthy.
You advocate children speaking in an adult realm to total strangers? That seems all good to you? Really???
There is nothing innocent about bragging...especially to adults...or do you have perfect pitch also, as was imparted to you by your father when you were young?

It's not PII. That's why I was willing to share.

You're being a bit dramatic. While I don't encourage my children to speak to strangers,if it did happen it certainly wouldn't merit the vitriol and physical reaction both you and the OP seem to condone.

Putting myself in the OPs shoes, I'm certainly not going to try to take the low road and insult a 12 year old, or go at his father because his child dared to forget his position.

Yes harsh was the term that I used!

To each their own but I'm not going to raise my kids to be afraid of strangers. That can lead to a lot of overbearing and vexatious behavior on website forums in the future.

3....very well behaved at that. Although they do occasionally speak to adults.
And I assume they are well behaved because it is something you instilled in them. If the OPs thread is even half true, that child was ill mannered to say the least. I don't advocate violence, but I was a staunch disciplinarian regarding how to act around adult strangers... Something my wonderful parents taught me, as I taught my son and am teaching my grandson. The child was out of line to offer opinion or correction to an adult stranger....period. The OP had choices..sure...but that surely does not excuse some obviously bad behavior from the child.

Not much worse in interwebz world than starting a thread about a perceived wrong, and then getting ZERO support...

Never fear, OP, at some point, someone will come along and agree with you wholeheartedly, just be patient...

Has it ever occurred to any of the trolls that this kid definitely spoke out if turn to an adult and is an insolent brat who needs some old fashioned discipline upon the backside?. When my son was 12, had he ever...and I mean EVER, mouthed off to an adult...any adult, with some smug sense of whatever, his punishment would have been swift. Little kids, and yes 12 is still a little kid, should never mouth off to adults...especially strangers.
OP, I'm one of the few who enjoyed your tale and I hope you did feel better...sincerely.

See, I told ya'...

It's a child, bragging on a talent. They do that sometime. No back handing required.

The child's behavior is excusable because he IS a child. The OPs? That's a different story.
