1200 Watt Mesa - Bout Time!

Yeah the M-Pulse (biggest damn mistake I ever made by selling that effin' amp!) has the FX Loop switch on the footswitch.

Aight dammit. I'm goin' back to Mesa when this killer comes out. I've had 2 Mesa amps, an M2000 and M-Pulse 600 and loved them both, but for some reason don't have either now... Not that my Demeter isn't just downright pretty, but damn... This one's gonna just have to find a nice little home in my rack!

I'm curious as to why Mesa doesn't come out with just an insane preamp. Kinda like the ultra smooth 2-space that Aguilar has or the Navigator. Seems to me like people would murder over the chance of getting the variety of an M2000 but the sound of an M-Pulse in a pre and then match it to whatever Crest amp you might have around!

Sweet!

Ok, I've had to reread the specs on this several times ... Is there anything this amp does not have??? Two independant switchable channels, each with switchable overdrive. Everything has level controls including the FX loops and DI out. Front and rear tuner outs ... 2ohm capability. Just curious to hear what the price is going to look like now.
Seems similar to one of these.

Well, imitation is supposed to be the best compliment. Mesa is just acknowledging a good idea on the part of Eden and Genz-Benz. I'm into lightening my load, so if I bought a Mesa it would have to be the Walkabout (nice to know that Jeff Genzler can recognize a good idea also and is bringing out the 3.5 pack) or the M-Pulse 600.

any comment about how much the V12 weighs? I understand that every head in this 1000+ watt category (is the v12 more watts at 2 ohms? can it go to 2 ohms).

I do really like Mesas so Tom B, don't get on my case here for this comment, but Mesa is not a high discount cheap date. It's high quality stuff for the most part although I question the Buster 200 watt head and wedge. But there's nothing unique about 1200 watt heads except that it's a Mesa and that it's got an intricate footswitch board, which other Mesa's I've seen also have, UNLESS it also weighs 20 pounds or less?

Sunn/Fender 1200s, Laney 1500, Carvin, Groove/kustom 1200GenzBenz 1200, I'm sure there's several others I've forgotten. I'd say more of it's about time you joined the crowd, not omygosh.

It actually is very, "Oh my gosh," because it's Mesa.

Mesa's M-Pulse 600 or Big Block 750 I would put up against the Laey, Carvin, Sunn/Fender, and the Kustom Groovebass. The others would have trouble keeping up with the Mesa, wattage ratings aside. Mesa's most powerful amp with a solid-state power section has been the M-Pulse, then more recently the BB750 (much more of the same, but stable down to two ohms) - they haven't felt a need for a huge 1,200 watt amp. Now they're competing.

The Genz-Benz GBE1200 and Mesa's Titan V12 are power monsters. Both companies are known for being very loud, powerful, and conservatively rated. The other 1,200 watt amps won't compare.

lame(B)ass - I'm way ahead of you, read up a bit. It would be a great match-up and would come down to, "Pick whichever base tone you like best." They are both more versatile than just about anything on the market. It would be a clash of the titans! (pun not intended) Two of what could be the biggest, loudest, baddest, bass amps out there.

Why would I?

Unless you were referring to my perference to choose my gear based upon tone and not upon weight. I fully recognize that for many other players, weight is more of an issue than it is for me - and fortunately there are a number of lightweight products available for those players. And also, for the record, there are a number of lightweight products which I feel also sound great!

My only comment was that if Mesa made a head that sounds like the Walkabout (which I personally like), but which puts out 3x the volume/headroom, I would be interested in hearing it. I will add that for myself, I find the footswitchable options are attractive, too.

Tom.

The M-Pulses sound like the Walkabouts... That was introduced after the M-Pulses had already come out with their second "type", or at least after the colors had changed and their demand was high enough.

I'll have to see if this sounds similar or if the Big Blocks are a totally different animal. I haven't found a 750 to mess with yet, but this amp looks just effin' awesome.

And I have to say that 1200 watts is hardly overkill when there's people running around with Crest CA-9's and PLX 3402's!

I have a M-Pulse 600 which I love. The BigBlock 750 is a beast, same great tone with differen't overdrive solutions. Now this guy come along and doubles my wattage while putting everything I want inside. I can't wait till this hits the stores, my M-Pulse 600 is going to become the backup :0.

Look, the GB "looks" real similar, kinda like and Audi and volkswagon or a Chevy and a Buick in some models. Any report on the weight? No one's answered that request.

Where's the innovation here, an 8 button pedal? They're on off stuff, not like a line 6 or some other bass effects floor pedal system.

I think what would be "interesting" would be for a high quality amp manufacturer like Genz Benz or Mesa to collaborate with an effects company to not only build a 1200 watt down to 2 ohm head that has a pretty complete effects selection with a footswitch selecting the effect, volume, amount of wah, etc. but that it also weighs under 20 pounds. Then I'd like them to charge $1500 or less streetprice.

I'm asking too much here. I"ll tell ya what....I'll bet one of the other amp makers (Carvin, Beringer, Kustom, Laney, maybe even Hartke) will see the "value" of putting the above package together.

The way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised to see Acoustic Image do something like this...they already have a reverb 1000 watts at two ohms and a 4 pound amp. Why not add another 5 pounds, make it into a full two rack size, and add digital and other effects and a pedal board?

Right now, is SWR the only mainstream amp maker that's got more than just an overdrive or reverb in a 750 watt integrated amp head (from what I've read...liberal wattage interpretation, IOW...softer than wattage rating seems to indicate

To me, an amp's gotta have more than just a Name people recognize, quality or not, on it for a 1200 watt head weighing likely 40 pounds or more (hey if I'm wrong, I'll be one of the first to shut up, maybe even considering buying one when I got the moolah, OK?) to be attractive. Gotta weigh less and gotta have useable digital effects, easily dialed in.

The reason that I suggested I'd get slammed Tom B. was that when I make any comment questioning the value or versatility of tone of certain NYC 200 watt tube amps costing $2800, you and your Sadowsky bigots stone me like I'm a mental case. What I get is the "how can you criticize (my suggesting anything negative or thought provoking from a budgetary standpoint) this piece of equipment when you haven't played it?"

Same way I've never played a GB in any form or the Mesa v12and yet, I have an opinion. People love their Mesa amps and those geeemogargantuan cabinets. Hey they're not for me or any old geezer who's shleps his own. I've tried out several Mesa's, liked their 400+, didn't have any affinity towards any of their valvestate? amps///pulse 600 or their walkabouts. The Walkabouts at least had some decent power vs weight...tonewise, I need my eq and maximizer and that would likely make it sound plenty good enough.

Bringing out another 1200 watt head without adding a significant lighter weight chassis, combined with as good as Mesa's other heads tone, and maybe the gravy on this cake is the addition (or choice) of adding a complete selection of useable digital tone, effects, added eq, compressor maybe, maybe noise reduction for us single coil non humbucking guys, just to me isn't much more than been there done that. Now 2or three years ago, this would be REALLY BIG NEWS, but Mesa's already come out with the 8 function medal on the Pulse 600 I believe or the simulstate amp whatever the name of it was, and adding a few more output watts and combining it with already 4 year old pedal on off switch technology sounds like a company trying to keep up with the Jone's, not be innovative and ahead of the curve.

The reason I don't complain about speaker cabinets as much anymore is there has been a ton of innovation, different designs, use of lighter weight materials, speakers and more to make the gigging experience, especially for us baby boomers who are still plugging away at our age more enjoyable. (EA, Accugroove, Epifani, Bergie's new amp in the cab, Schroeder lights, GB, Ampeg, even GK). But when I need a 40-50+ pound head with 1000-1200+ watts to power one or a couple of 30-35 pound speaker cabinets, there's more and more wrong with this equation.

I would suggest that those of you going woooeeee on this head play through and use a woods or walkabout or the new GB lightweight, a Portabass, or an EA iamp 800, or an AI Focus III for a while and see just how little impact the announcement of another heavy 1200 all solid state or hybrid amp plays on your GAS valve.

I'm sure it's a great amp for the right group of you'all, even some old farts my age. But after 9 months with my Focus I, not the 1000 watter at 2 ohms, but the 600 watter at 4, all of a sudden these announcements, without the lesser weight without some sort of effects just show some company trying to keep up with the Jones's.

That's not how I read (or intended) those other comments, but whatever. As we have said in the past, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and I suppose that extends to interpretation of on-line comments as well.

Eh....there doesn't really to appear to be a great deal of innovation.

But, fact is many fans of mesa have been waiting for them to release a high powered head, myself included. Does anyone need a more powerful head than say the M-600 or big block 750? Probaby not. But as you know, 90% of us are always wanting the biggest baddest bestest equiptment available. Whether or not we actually go through and make the purchase is different, but people want an impressive product...so this product already has a market.

I personally like the amount of control available in the footswitch. Groundbreaking? No, but it's putting together some of the items that players like myself have been wanting to see(selectable channel with selectable overdrive for each channel).

What I would personally have prefered to have seen done differently would be instead of having selectable inputs, which I do not see the point in, I would have liked to have seen switchable FX loops for each channel. I believe that would have made this head absolutely a killer.
