1200W Forte HP

The PLX2402 was mentioned in this thread in a non flattering way, and I agree 100%. It was QSC's first attempt, I believe, at a SMPS to lower amp weight and it was the big "fail" IMO, regardless of what one QSC employee/TB member here tried to explain away as gain matching. I had one new in a box in my shop for the longest time and couldn't understand why so many players where bridging this amp to get even close to the capabilities of our then HT322 cab. I finally took it out of the box, plugged it in, and was horrified! Even next to their 300watt @ 4ohm class A/B amp it was "no contest". The more I turned the PLX2402 up, the harsher and worse it sounded. Sure it was louder, but it lost all the warmth and yes, "slam", you would expect from such a "powerful" amp. In fact, trying to eq more bass in only made it worse because it caused it to drain its current capabilities even quicker. Back in the box it went, and I honestly don't even remember what I did with it. Maybe I left it behind when I moved! ;-} And to be clear, I was always a big fan of QSC's earlier designs. For years I used their 1400/1700 series and later their MX series with great results.
Thank you...Finally somebody says what I experienced owning one and believing all the hype..not cheap $$$...and I was never thrilled with the sound

1.) In regard to the HP's USB port for updates. It may be obvious to some but I would like to know what functions are updatable? I would think the BSD, filters ??

2.) I wonder if anyone has experitmented how to "get close" to any of the Berg Profiles with the provided EQ on the 700w Forte? Probably not but I had to ask at the risk of sounding completely uninformed. I believe that those profiles are created via DSP and are most likely very complex. Further I do not believe that the profiles are there 'only' to make it easily accessible. So.. I'm probably quite far off the mark here. Be gentle .. smart people LOL. (For the record I'm using a pair of NV115 beauties.)

Myself and other have said they like it simple but I hear so many B|Amp users rave about the Profiles. I have not tested out the B|amp to hear the difference on and off. I would still have to try it in a live mix. If it is that much better than I'm sure some may be waiting for the 1200 watt version that may or may not ever be offered. I once owned an IP310 knowing absolutely zero about DSP. I used an Aggie 659 and a Demeter 201S. My experience was not favorable and I always ended up not using the DSP in a live mix. I wish I had a HPF at that time... That is not to say it was not great for others. Fully aware that things have come a long way it has kept me from trying the B|Amp. It would be the profiles that I'd be after as I am not intimidated by the extra features even though I like simple.

I'm pretty excited about the HP and just hanging around to hear some feedback.

Forgive me if I missed this in my quick review of the thread just now, but is the signal path of Forte HP all analog or is there some analog-to-digital-to-analog conversion going on?

I'm a pretty (very) simple guy..... and especially as a bassist. I've used all tube amps all my life..
The BAmp features DID initially overwhelm me... well, still do a little, tbh :roflmao::cool: ... but, now, I only really use the. VHPF/VLPF screen, and occasionally, adjust the eq points.
The profiles, it stays on HG410, or a simple switch over to 2 X NV115 as the HG410 and NV215 are my only Berg cabs.
Apart from that, I pretty much set and forget, probably MORE than on my 3 knob EQ tube amps!
As the BAmp can have 3 saved patches.... without using the footswitch.... I just use one for clean , one for a bitta dirt, and one as a .... ummmm. I can't even remember what the 3rd one is, as the ones I use do it all so well.

The profiles..... well, for me :- there ain't a HUGE difference with or without them, but, definitely better, definitely!
I'm no good at describing tones etc, and I wouldn't even BEGIN to unnastan just WHAT went into em, but.....
My HG410 and NV215 went from being great cabs with my tube amps and bl@@dy good with the BAmp, to being GREAT with the B|amp also.
Bl@@dy good to great...... there's some technical advice there..;)
Profiles just seem to add evenness and solidity.

Very musical terms those:woot:

Very well said Rod.

Ok, thanx, I'll take that. ;)

You're right in your comments below that tho... and mayyyybe MY comments above, basically say that too, just in a long winded and convoluted way :roflmao:
I find that I "plug n play" the BAmp WAY more now that I've got it set for me, and the recent updates are SO good. I'll look at the start up sequence onscreen, make sure it's set on HG410 or NV215, whichever one I'm using, and then it's game on. Rarely do I need to adjust the EQ, and even if I do, it's 4 band....L,LM,HM,H... even I can cope with that:smug: you don't HAVE to go adjusting the EQ Frequencies if you don't want to. I think I set a couple of em where I wanted em months ago.... I leave em there unless there's a specific reason for extra attention
Adjust the HPF if the room is boomy...
THAT'S a bonus tho, and a one button push to adjust.
Again, even I can do it.
MUST be simple! :bassist:

Yup. If you do your homework on the B|Amp, gig day is akin to peacock strutting up to the teacher during class and slapping down that paper on her desk in one arcing, continuous arm motion while yelling “BAM!”.

I almost never use the profiles on my Bamp, sounds great anyway.

1) I guess everything is updatable, it will depend on whether Jim sees the need for an update somewhere or not. I'd guess there might not even be plans to update it at this moment, it's probably there just in case it's needed.

2) It is better, gives a little better lows and more balanced tone overall. That said, although I briefly had an HD112, it wasn't significant enough for me to bind me to Bergantino cabs (which are amazing, of course, but I went with something else for the time being). OTOH, although I get the "I like it simple" argument, most people don't seem to realise that their daily routine with the B|Amp would be the same as with a Forte. The extra options, including the profiles, are only there if you need them, they don't make the amp's basic operation more complicated.
Forgive me if I missed this in my quick review of the thread just now, but is the signal path of Forte HP all analog or is there some analog-to-digital-to-analog conversion going on?
AFAIK it's all digital, from input until the power amp. Not the kind of digital we used to have in the 90s, though, this is very high quality and not a compromise in any way to my ears.

Hi Dean

Although the forte’ is updatable given all its features are done digitally, I really don’t see too much in terms of updates unless it’s just refining some of the existing features on the amp. So primarily it’s there for the new Bluetooth foot switch and even as a slow USB charger.

The profiles in the BAmp are based on very specific measurements done on the cabs. As far as getting close with the forte tone controls, you wouldn’t want to rely on them. That’s not their function. They’re “tone” controls and should be used for that and not eqing your speakers. Something this industry hasn’t seemed to grasp yet. And the profile filters are after the DI which means they can never go to front of house. Only your tone controls if selected.
