"What" is a great choice. It went "there". You can go "there" anytime you like - it's just a little hard to come back from "there" sometimes. Also, there is a lot of "whaaaaaat" around these days. Still trying to figure out if "What" and "Whaaaaaaat" are the same thing...

Yeah I gotta say that I always enjoyed most cabs I've tried, but on a whim I gave a Mesa 2x12 a go. All I can say is it blew my mind! IME best of both worlds...but it could be that it's a Mesa hahahaha

There are 12's out there that are extraordinary! Check out Greenboy cabs or Barefaced cabs. Both are well above what you'd expect from 12" speakers.
I use a Greenboy F212 cab on a lot of gigs, large rooms, and it's more that I need.
The cabs are designed and built to specs that really work for bass.

I like cabs that sound good and don't like cabs that don't. What size speaker(s)? Couldn't give a rat's ass. I'm as liable to show up with a 12 as a 15 or a 10. You see, I use my ears to listen, not my eyes.

Afraid I'm going to call you on this one. In order to sound good a bassist should know string gage and metallurgy, amount of windings on pickup, capacitor values and pot specs, finish makeup, and tone woods and thats just on the bass! And, if you want to get technical tuner weight, bridge mass and straplock type.

Then, you start on the amp/cab. Once you have the specs all aligned you will sound good. A good bassist should spend at least 78.38% of his free time on speccing and the rest on practice. If you sound poor then obviously you've screwed up on the specs!

So you're trying to tell ME, that a 2x12 cab. is gonna be deeper, punchier, warmer and clearer than a 1x15? (or two 1x15's)? I'm a firm believer that 15's are the ultimate cones/cabs for Bass guitar, and now someone comes along and tells me that 12's are where it's at for Bass! Are you serious?

Two 1x12 Aguilar's work great for me. Good definition and plenty of fat low end. At 44 lbs a piece they save my back too.

I thought that was where things were in the 90s. My impression is that music that still involves a bass player is just about obsolete.

When I was a pup, 12s were for guitars and 10s and 15s were for bass. But man, the three best cabs I've heard lately were GK, genzler, and bergantino, all 12 with a tweeter

I love my Aguilar 12 with a Tone Hammer head. I used to play Ampeg B-15s back in the day, and then a SWR 15. I would not go back.

I owned a Music Man head and 212 cabinet from 1979-1983 and had numerous other bass players tell me I was crazy, that only 15 speakers *should* be used for bass. I liked that rig a lot, but ultimately gave in to peer pressure and went to a 15" combo because I was young and impressionable. Personally, I'd love to have a rig with 12s now.

i will say though I haven't heard a massed produced 12 yet that made me want to give up my ampeg stack.
