17 year old curfew

he doesn't want to seem like a baby by having to be in at a certain time.

I know what you mean. My wife and I talked to our son about his curfew, and the three of us agreed on a time. This way, he does not tell his friends "my parents are making me come home at 12". He just says he wants to be home.

When the teenage helps make the choice, they feel more like an adult.

He went to one of those late bowling sessions the other night and didn't get home until 1am.

Interesting. My son loves to go bowling. Around here, they have what is called lightning bowling on Fridays that lasts until midnight. When he wants to go lightning bowling, he asks us. We agree to let him come home around 12:30 on those nights since it takes some time to get home after the bowling ends.

-Mike

Yeah, I get it now. There is peer pressure and he wants
to have a little freedom so he doesn't appear like he is 14.

If he had called and explained, would you have consented?
Or would you have driven over and picked him up?
Just curious?

I think at that point I just had to be happy getting the information as to where he was and what he was doing. If he would have called a little earlier and asked I still might have said no because of who he was with. If he was with his friends, and I know most of his friends , I would have said yes.
Cell phones do make it easier on parents. At least I didn't have to sit around for hours and worry like my parents.:D

take the kid out to stuff. spend time with him if you dont already, but think about it, if hes at the show with you hes not smoking dope, throwing back shots, knocking up some older chick

He and I do a lot together. It's great that we have music in common. I also take him to any show I can get him in but some bars would rather you not.
I do try to spend as much time with him as I can and I think I am a good influence on him however he does have his own friends and it would just be creepy if I was always hanging out with them.

I think 11:30 should be his curfew.

But, be a bit lenient when he calls at 11:00 asking if he could stay out till 12 or something on the weekends.

But then again, this is coming from a 19year old who had a 10:00 curfew until i moved out :D

You showed us pictures of your workplace last week. You call what you do sales? What are you guys selling over there?

;)

:ninja:

I think you guys have gotten totally the wrong
impression of me. The next time you eat a piece of fairly mediocre seafood, I want you to remember this sales creed and think of me.

"There is fish for selling and fish for eating, and this is
definitely fish for selling"

===

Back on topic, the 'older b/f' scene is bad news, I agree.
Some guys won't put up with that. Maybe with some
experience, he won't. Unfortunately, its a match he is
going to have to burn his own fingers on, the more you
diss her, the worse your position gets. :(

I never got to see the workplace pics. I will have to look that tread up and post my own.

When I was 17, I was not allowed out on weeknights and sunday nights, unless there wasn't school. Weekends and vacations, I was allowed to stay out until midnight unless I was pulling EMT duty, in which case our shifts go from 6 pm to 6 am.

Now that I'm in college, my curfew has been extended to 1 when I'm home.

From the age 16 or something like that, I never had a curfew

Since I moved from home a year ago, this isnt a topic for me presently. But last year it was, at the age of 18.

This whole curfew thing depends on if you can trust youre son. My parents knew I wouldnt do anything stupid when I was out. Even if I was drinking or doing other things..

Will youre son endanger himself if he gets to stay up later?

Yeah, no curfew. He won't in a year when he goes to college anyways. Use this time to let him prepare his own freedom. 17 is what, 11th grade now? The social skills he learns after 11 could be some of the most important skills of his life.

Let me ask, please, why do YOU want him to have a curfew on weekends? If its a matter of concern, what will you do after he's left the house? 11s not even up that late, heck, SNL hasn't even started by that time.

I'm just saying you don't want him to blow up when he actually does have the freedoms. And remember these, the kid that wants the candy is the one whose not allowed to have it, women always want the forbidden fruit, and (i'm sorry) but think of the political reasons as well. Our country thinks you're able to go off and do plenty at the ripe age of 17 or 18.
