2 Notes Opus

Thanks for getting in touch. The system you currently have (i.e. not in the H90 FX loop) can certainly work and a bypassed preset is a good pracical option here. In terms of clipping, can you specify what output of what device please? Thanks!
Hi Ross, thanks for getting back to me. I am running the Opus after the Jad Freer Capo TLE preamp and before the H90. The H90 goes into amp.

So its Tuner > Comp > Page Boost (always on) > Doom 2 > Proton > MBD3 > Capo > Opus > H90 > amp. The Opus is set to receive Instrument level from the Capo and the H90 is set to receive Line level from the Opus. So the issue I have is when the Opus is in the chain, with a empty bypass preset, line out routing is set directly after input and volume on Opus about 90%, the volume drops unless I turn it up pass 90. But when I do, the output of the Opus LED panel shows clipping and it sounds harsher. If I take the Opus out of the chain and connect Capo > H90 > amp, I get a volume boost and no clipping. I think the Opus in the chain is affecting the signal, but I'm not sure why, as routing line out is set directly after input. The level for the presets are set at 0db.

Any advice to try? I would like to keep the Opus in the chain without affecting the signal, but at the moment, it is.

If you set all the presets to the same audible level, only the tone should change.

It might be different if you are using REALLY high gain settings (mostly guitarists, I would think), due to the higher background noise levels.
I don't use anything that noisy and therefore don't use the Noise Gate.

I'm using the global routing to bypass the effects, so Line out is directly after input, which in theory, should give a bypass or clean signal. When I adjust the volume knob to match the same level as when the Opus is not in the chain, I get weird artifacts and the sound is harsher. There also clipping. If I reduce the volume, then I don't get the clipping, but obviously get the volume loss. I'm just hoping there is a way to get a true bypass, without volume loss, or harshness so i can leave the Opus in the chain.

Thanks for this. As you are using a blank preset, can you set the Line Out Routing to full processing please? This should let you set a suitable preset volume in the preset for matching purposes but without any of our Torpedo Processing. Let me know if this helps!

I have no idea, but I would think the output from the Capo would be line level, not instrument level, but I definitely could be wrong.

Maybe just try setting the input on the Opus to line level and see if that makes a difference - I'm totally spit-balling here.

I uploaded three Presets to the Opus Exchange server.

Two Notes Opus Exchange Server

All three use the Standard Powerhouse 1000 cabinet:
One is EQ only (no preamp and no power amp), so it is very clean, solid, and punchy (IBJDEQOSPH1K).
One uses the Aviator preamp in low gain, no power amp - again very clean, solid, and punchy (IBJDDGNPSPH1K).
One uses the Foundry Bass preamp - all of the above, plus more tubey goodness (IBJDSBNPSPH1K).
All three sound great with all genres of music!

Awesome! Looking forward to giving these a go!

Last night I gave the Opus a run with an Audio Kitchen Fake Plastic Trees (FPT) and JohnK Spaceman Equinox clone in front. (I also have the big box Equinox as well). I've never really been a fan of cab sims on bass and always preferred the direct sound, feeling like cab sims are too dark or take away from the feel of the bass, not as dynamic. All of those ideas were erased last night. 🥳 As I've mentioned before, here and elsewhere, I believe phase inversion really affects how the low end feels through headphones, particularly my Beyer DT770s. Last night, I inverted one of the mics in the DynIR module and the life and dynamics of the bass came back and the sims sounded great, full-bodied and deep. If you are having trouble enjoying the cab sims I suggest inverting the phase on one of the mics, in my case I just picked Mic A for sake of ease. I don't know how it'll be inverting Mic B instead.

Also, I would suggest using some EQ to tailor the sound for your bass and effects. I had to use different settings on the Equinox based on the cab in use so there is not a one-size-fits-all approach there. I was quite happy playing along to some blues songs with a thick and responsive bass tone that rivaled the best real life cab sound I've achieved. Kudos to Two Notes for that! My favorite cabs yesterday were the Rea One, AZ (Ben or Work I can't remember), and the Fridge (not the 9).

The next task is to try to duplicate the sound without the FPT or Equinox but that is a tall order because the FPT is the greatest AIAB pedal I've ever used and the Equinox being Pultec-based gets some EQ curves that aren't really possible with traditional means. I'm excited to really dig in to the cabs now.

Awesome! So pleased to hear our cab sims have converted you! That is great to hear and I will share with the Two notes team now!

Very cool!

I tried the phase reversal on a few of my Presets, but it cuts the volume way down.

I guess we are using different mics / setups... - I don't have any external pedals or anything, just my bass, headphones, and PC for music.

The Phase reverse will completely depend on your setup and even the DynIR (or mics in the DynIR) loaded - when you reverse the Phase, you may get some phase cancellation which is perceivable as a drop in volume. The key here is experimentation and seeing what works best in the context of your tone!

hello, I have a question: is it possible to get distorted sounds with the OPUS? Some kind of overdrive, or is it only for clean bass tones? Thanks
Ross from Two notes here. You can certainly get some distorted tones using the Aviator TSM model - this is a high gain pre and should give you quite a lot of gain-centric tonal flexibility, especially when combined with the power-amp modelling and the Custom Mode EQ. Let me know if you have any other questions here - always happy to help!
