2011 NFL Draft

I like all of our picks so far. We had a weak pass rush last year, so we change the scheme and bring in 2 guys that fit it perfect. With Derrick Morgan (hopefully) returning at full force, we could return to the days of "The Freak" and "Mr. Monday Night." I like the Ayers pick a lot, but I don't know a lot about Casey. The Pac-10 favoritism seems to have carried over some from the Fisher days though.

The pick of Jake Locker doesn't really seem like as much of a reach as people are making it out to be. I can understand the critics, but giving them an "F" draft grade for that pick is just homer-ism at its finest. It isn't like he was a consensus top-5 pick last season or anything.

Plus Jake is the exact opposite of VY. Vince was known as a prolific partier, Jake is fixing to be married. Vince left early for the $$, Jake stayed to develop his skills and get his degree. Vince slept through team meetings, Jake is the first in/last out. the list goes on and on... With that said, I would've like Andy Dalton or Blaine Gabbert too, but Locker seems to fit well with Palmer, and is very similar to some of Palmer's other projects (most notably SB winner Eli Manning).

Jake is a good kid from a small town and has a great family all around him. He declined the offer to attend the draft saying he wanted to stay home with his family. A local TV station asked him if he was sad he didn't drop to the home town Seahawks as many expected. He said he was happy and excited to be a Titan, and that he knew all along they would draft him. He said he met with them multiple times and felt they were the only team that believed in him as much as he believed in them.

I'm glad you guys got him.

Chris Palmer said the exact same thing in the interview that followed the first round. I figure if a bunch of coaches are willing to tie their entire livelihood to Locker, the least I can do is trust them in making the decision.

The lockout is no longer enjoined.

After reviewing the temporary stay which was granted Friday evening by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, the NFL officially notified teams that the lockout is back on.

“The clubs have been told that the prior lockout rules are reinstated effective immediately,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.

Teams can no longer pass out playbooks or have contact with their players. Weightrooms and team facilities will be closed again.

It only seems fitting in this insane offseason that this announcement would be made after 11 p.m. ET after day two of the NFL Draft. The league can’t let fans enjoy even one weekend.

The stay is only temporary. The court is expected to officially rule on a longer stay sometime next week.

Unfortunately, we won’t have the draft to distract us then.

LOVE the Gilbert pick.

Now trade Heyward and another pick for Pouncey and we're good to go.

-Mike

While I'd love to have Mike Pouncey alongside his brother, Kevin Colbert is absolutely ga ga over Cam Heyward. Both he and Tomlin think very highly of him. If you get a chance, watch their video on the Steelers site discussing the pick.

And they're hoping for good things from their second round pick as well - Marcus Gilbert, the Tackle/Guard out of Florida. He was Maurkese Pouncey's best friend (after Mike, of course!) at Florida; and Maurkese lobbied hard for him. The coaches like him because of his versatility. He can play tackle or guard on either side of the line. But yeah, it would have been nice to get Mike!.

Their 3rd pick, cornerback Curtis Brown (Texas), is reportedly a good cover corner, but needs to add some bulk to his thin frame.

The thing I noticed is that teams in the bottom half of the first round seemed to make out better in terms of value than those in the first half of the order. There were some really good prospects going to teams in the 2nd half of the order.

I'm loving the Bears first 2 picks. Carimi and Paea fill two glaring needs on both sides of the ball. Not sure about Conte in the 3rd round, but hoping he pans out, as the Bears always seem to deal with injury problems at the safety position. I was hoping on Greg Little in the 3rd to get Cutler the big target he needs, but someone else took a chance on him earlier. So far I'm happy with our 1st 2, and hopefully we can get a G, CB, and WR in the later rounds or in FA, if and when that begins.

I don't know the Lions other picks as well as Farley. The Lions pick:

1) Nick Farley; an absolute steal at 13, some had him going one or two. The Lions may have the two best young defensive tackles in the game, and both have the speed to move outside situationally (Farley had 11 sacks from DT and blew up Oregon States interior offensive line in the Title game). Now you will not be able to double team Suh with Farley beside him. I have a feeling opposing offensive lines are going to have nightmares lining up against Detroit this year. They already have all pro Kyle Vanden Bosh on one End and Cliff Avril 8 sacks on the other. I suspect FA defensive players will take a second look at the Lions now. Last year the Lions were 16th in the league on pass defense with Chris Houston as their #1 corner.

2) Titus Young WR Boise State. Supposedly this adds speed to the receiver corp, with Johnson and Burelson?

3) Mike Lashure RB IL. A power runner?

4) Doug Hogue OLB Syracuse.

OLB and CB were the Lions biggest needs, but I don't think the Lions were impressed by many of the available guys after Von Miller and Patrick Peterson went off the board.

Does anyone know the last three picks?

In the fourth round we picked up a linebacker from Miami and a RB from Clemson. Both were featured in their team's special teams, and both were mostly situational players. They seem to be our "project" players as they are no where near as complete as Ayers and Locker are.

Colin McCarthey LB Miami

Karl Klug from Iowa was our 5th round pick. Another pick to bulk up the defensive line, as Jerry Gray was the one that installed the DL rotation that the Titans have used to punish QB's over the years. His size makes him a 'tweener and perfect for passing situations in our system.

There are no player profiles for our 6th or first 7th round pick, so I'm assuming NFL.com thinks they are irrelevant. At any rate, I'll probably look them up later on.

As a whole, our draft focused on our biggest needs (QB, DL, LB, character...) so I'm especially happy about that, but I feel like we reached a few times here and there. If I were to grade it with my heart, it would be an A, but with my head I see it as more a B-ish, maybe B+.

Man... what was A.J. Smith thinking? who the heck did the chargers just pick?? never even heard of the guy... we had cameron jordan available and smith picks... Luiget?? who??

That was my initial reaction too until I saw that on almost every mock draft board they had the guy going between 12 to 14. I'm okay with that pick. The one that ticked me off was the Michigan linebacker taken in the second by him that was supposed to be no more than a 6th round pick.

I don't even know who your talking about and I live in MI. I do know that tackling was optional on the MI defense last year.:D

I'm originally from San Diego so I am a die hard Chargers fan but our 2 worst picks both came from Michigan. All of the other picks seemed either good or decent.

Jonas Mouton is the linebacker taken in the second round who everyone had as a 6th or 7th round pick. Mouton himself even said he was surprised when he received the phone
call because he too was expecting to go so late in the draft if even at all.

The other guy is an OT with the last name of Schilling. I'm not too concerned with him as he was a very late pick but the Mouton pick so high absolutely kills me. Trade out of the spot and pick up a 3rd or 4th round pick then get the guy. Then it wouldn't have been as bad.
