2013-2014 NHL playoffs thread.

I saw most of the first period, and the last eight minutes of the third tonight. It's been a few years since I have seen the Pens play this well in the playoffs. My prediction of NYR in the SCF is looking shaky now.

The 2nd was a little odd. Ice was tilted in NYRs favor, they just couldn't sink the puck. Lots of golden opportunities missed. Our PP was unusually weak too - first two registered zero SOG. Of course though, we sink a short handed goal in there, again (really wonky one, too!). Losing Orpik again stinks, too. If we can play like the first 20ish and last 25ish minutes, I think we'll be pretty OK. BOS or MTL will of course be a different story, but I think we at least stand a chance against either of them *IF* we continue playing like this. I'm really liking watching Fleury again - Bales has changed him a lot. Some tendencies to switch back to VH blocking sometimes, but he seems to do it better, and not be left standing frozen. One goal he really should've had blocked tonight, the other, meh.

I'm going to end up missing most of tonight's Habs-Bs game due to work. B's need to continue to be disciplined but need to be heavy on the puck and the body as well. Montreal has a clear advantage in speed and skill - makes for entertaining, if nerve-wracking games.

Pens are playing amazingly solid fundamental hockey. Rangers are trying to make plays, but the big wallet guys are playing weak. Terrible timing to lose this much form. NYR's look like they did at the beginning of the year.

What happens when you guide your NHL team to a 2-12 record the last 14 games of the regular season with the playoffs on the line, even being ranked in the top two of your division earlier in the season?

In Toronto, that gets you a two year contract extension. Hurray for mediocrity and failure. GO Leafs!

Teemu Selanne had the game winner tonight until Mike Richards ruined that. At least it went to former Penguin and Dartmouth grad Ben Lovejoy. Nice steal and pass, then sprint down the ice to put the game winner past Quick.

That was a great game...its basically a coin toss at this point. Habs and Bruins are pretty much equal.

I only saw the 3rd and the OT due to work, but I have to agree with you. The Habs are a tough matchup for Boston and contrary to what I used to think, it is not primarily because of they get under the B's skin, but because they skate and forecheck and push the puck fast. Montreal is also giving and taking hits more than I recall them doing in the regular season. This series is a coin flip, I take some comfort that the B's appear to be getting a little better each game, I'd feel more comfortable if they accelerate that rate of improvement.

Don't be sad Ziltoid - now there will be at least 2 more of these games.

Darth - I know you enjoyed the B's singer Rene Rancourt - how does he stack up against Montreal's Ginette (don't call me Janet - ht Dan Shaugnessy) Reno?
