Hey man, where've you been??!!!! Good to see you back, although it's a rough time to be a Flyers fan, for sure...
Great game between Pittsburgh and Vancouver. Another 3 point game for Crosby and Maatta gets his first goal. Fun game to watch. The teams are pretty evenly matched.
Selanne kicks off the scoring Sunday night as the Ducks cruise to win number seven in a row.

Pens keeping Maatta up past 9 games, so he'll be around for at least close to 40. I think that's the right movie. Despite being really deep with defensive prospects, I think Maatta is practically Top 4 ready at the age of 19, and sending him back to the London Knights really isn't going to improve him much more. He needs NHL ice time. I'll be buying his jersey as soon as it's available.
I guess Kris Letang really pushed for management to keep him up. Bortuzzo and Maatta have made a great pairing, but I wonder if he'll get some ice time with Letang when he's back. He'd make a good pairing, and having Letang and Maatta on the points makes for some pretty lethal offensive blue line power while still having 2 very good defensive players.

I've read both ways on Maatta. When Letang comes back, maybe his ice time goes down so he is better off with the Knights. I don't have a full grasp on how entry level contracts work, but there is some concern about that as well.

I had to at least give a "facepalm" to show that I'm not too embarrassed to show my face around here.
I'm hoping that this isn't the slow start that can't be recovered from like last year. Albeit this is twice the season as last year (if it keeps going this way it's gonna be a looooong season).
The Flyers are slumping for sure and I think they have a case of really really bad luck right now. So many opportunities that weren't finding the back of the net. Hopefully they wake up for Thursday against an equally unimpressive Rangers team.
The optimist in me sees Giroux have a breakout game, go on a tear and bring the rest of the team along for the ride. He is just way to competitive to allow this to go on for too much longer.
There are some standouts so far for me in this trainwreck of a start. Keeping my eye on Micheal Raffl, Tye McGinn and Steve Mason.
This is what I saw in the game Thursday with the Pens. So many of those bounces and chances were going the Pens way when they had been going Philly's way in previous games.
Good news for Flyers fans is Timonen's injury is minor. He is supposed to return to practice today.

I think Engo is on his way out, with the possibility of Niskanen also being traded. Even if Niskanen stays, that leaves room to rotate Bortuzzo and Maatta at the 6th D position, with more of the games likely going to Bort.
I guess if the Pens play him in more than 9 NHL games, the first year of his entry level contract kicks in. Then if he plays more than 40 games, he becomes an unrestricted free agent when his contract expires in like 2019 instead of a RFA. I believe that's how it all works.

I just read that Orpik was giving Maatta super high praise, and let team management know what he thought of him in regards to keeping him up or sending him down. Seems like everyone is on board with getting the 19 year old some NHL ice time.

Definitely a treat tonight for hockey fans. COL/PIT just getting started and SJ/DET. Too bad they are on at the same time.

That was a great game in Pittsburgh last night. I love me some 1-0 hockey. Too bad the Pens could not find enough free ice to make plays and solve Giguere. He was in the zone last night. Colorado remains undefeated on the road. Road wins against PIT and BOS mixed in there, impressive.
There were moments in that game where I thought Colorado had six or seven guys on the ice. There was so little free room for the Pens.

Yeah, I mised a couple good games last night. Started watching the Avs/Pens game. Then the Sharks shut out Detroit 1-0.
On the Flyers... I think it's about time they bring Laughton up and give him a look in the big show. He's got 17 points down there in the OHL right now, obviously playing with little boys. He won't develope down there and the Flyers need some scoring. Bring the kid up and let him show something for nine games!

Taylor Hall expected to miss four weeks for Edmonton with a knee injury. Bummer deal.

I'm with you there. I'd like to see Coots get more ice time and be leaned on a little more as well.
As frustrating as it is to watch this team flounder meanwhile other teams are having great success, I think this is just a short term slump so I'm optimistic as well.
If it becomes a year after year trend, then we can start considering the Flyers the perennial pushovers. I certainly hope that doesn't happen cause I'd hate to see the best years of Giroux's career end in disappointment.
Think about it this way Flyers fans....would you rather have a great regular season, then choke in the playoffs? If so, have a seat at the table next to us Penguins fans so we can tell you what that feels like.
