2013 Ampeg V-4B 100W Reissue Pt2

Yeah well, I'm back to being lazy again and plus its raining today, so back to NX2-212T+GB12.2 for tonites gig. So eazy a schlep for those have to load in/out quickly gigs. I just grab her by the ears and walk her in to club. (my cab, not the girl below) :bored:
I used my new Squire VMJ-V last nite; was pretty awesome.

Gona try my new-to-me G&L M2000 tonite; first time with this GB setup. I meant to take a pic of my Ampeg+Squire VMJ-V rig at last nites gig but I got distracted and focused my ph cam on the clubs' lingerie show kittens instead:

I've been completely happy with my V-4B paired with a couple of SVT210AV cabs since the end of 2013. But, after trying out the Bergantino CN212, I had to bring one home. Sounds absolutely fantastic with the V-4B. I've spent about 45 minutes at home with the cab and am exceptionally happy thus far. It'll make its gig debut tonight. :bassist:

Nice! I have a pair of the AV210s and I'm considering the V4-B RI. How would you say the pair of AV210s compare to the CN212 in terms of tone and volume with that head?

Haha..yeah I do have a couple other pics on my ph. But I already felt like a dirty old man posting this one pic, so didn't wanna over do it. :cool: The nutty gawker in back is the clubs' owner. Great, fair n fun guy.....for a club owner. ;)

If this pic offends any female bassist' sorry for that; just funnin'. I guess if any ladies play a gig where a guy is sparsely dressed, to be fair they can post those pics.......but hopefully not. :smug:

Dave W. nailed it. Definitely more volume from the CN212.

I really liked the tight, punchy sound of the 210AV cabs. To me, the CN212 still has a punchy sound, but with more lows and a crisper high end if you want it. Though that's what I'd expect from it given its configuration vs the 210AV. So far, I'm very pleased in the CN212 paired with the V-4B.

Finally got to have my first gig with the V-4B last night. There was a sound guy for FOH, but it was more to pipe the band throughout the bar than for volume. I made nice with him when I got there, and asked him what he needed from me. He said if the amp sounds good he'd just mic it, if not, he'd take it direct. When he saw what it was, he just reached for the mic....I love being able to use this rig as an anchor for guitar hangers as well. Makes it so easy. Factoring in the space neeed for guitar stands and pedal board (I always have at least 2 basses), this set up realistically requires a smaller footprint on stage than when I had a micro stack.

As expected, it sounded great and all that. I finally figured out what seems to have been causing the occasional wireless dropout. First, I thought maybe it was something about the receiver being on the amp, or just being higher than the transmitter, or maybe a faulty transmitter. Nope. It was my stupid cell phone. I had it sitting right next to the receiver and I got lots of drop outs. Moved it to the drum riser, not a single drop ever.

Here's my entry into the club:

V4B reissue, Hartke AK410 cab, and my TH350 "backup". I've had the V4B for a little over a month but just got around to posting pics. I've played 1 gig with it a couple of weeks ago (outdoor venue, amp run direct out to the PA, cab for stage volume), and it performed flawlessly. Huge tone, stayed clean thru the gig, and I even got a couple of compliments on my sound.

Thanks, guys. I figured the CN212 delivered more lows, given the tightness of the 210AVs down there, but it's good to get confirmation. Any thoughts on the character of the mids--I'm assuming you get more upper-mid content from the Berg?

One other followup: Are you both saying a single CN212 is significantly louder than a PAIR of 210AVs? I realize the Ampeg cabs have light/medium duty speakers, but I would still find this surprising as the pair of Ampegs does get reasonably loud IME.

I'll put it this way...

I've played multiple outdoor gigs with no PA support and nothing but my CN212 to fill the place out, which it did quite easily without even breaking a sweat. I also got multiple compliments on how full the bass sounded. Not something I could do with a pair of 210AV's.

I get compliments on my tone all the time. I play some nice amps, but that CN212 is a big part of it.

For the settings I normally use (bass-12, mids-2 or 3 at 800, treble-12, gain between 12-2 and ultra low engaged), I hear the 210AV cabs as being more mid present.

As for loudness, yes, that was what I was saying. I would have completely expected two 210 cabs to be louder than a 212. But, in this case, the Berg is louder to my ears.

Definitely not the heaviest duty cabs on the market, but if I played two of them with a V4B as loud as it could go, I would get canned even on our outdoor gigs. Not that I'm looking for that kind of volume so not a big deal to me, but I never thought of two of them as "quiet." Not the best cab for metal, but sounds great for what I'm doing.
