hah. I ran 2 12s for close to a year. I'm going to run 3 for awhile and see how that goes. When christmas time rolls around (or i find another deal sooner) I might pick up a 4th.

I really do like the idea of a 4th because I can set the cabs beside each other and it fits perfectly in the middle holes.

Well the matching 212AV cab arrived today! I only played for a few minutes with '58 with TI flats and I sure liked what I heard in the living room. I'm certain it's going to sound even better in big room. Sounds better than the bad phone pic for sure. Sure looks good even with no sound coming out.

@punky I wouldn't be worried about running the V4B at 2 ohms. It's what it was designed to do and I'm sure it'd run perfectly at 2 ohms all day.

But isn't it 2.67? Close but Ampeg does not recommend it, also voiding the warranty. At least that's what they told me. Some others on here have the same thoughts while I know of two who are using the 212AV with a 112AV and have had no known issues. So who knows...

So as of last week my V4B isn't turning on. After going in to check the power tubes I noticed that the fuse cavity on the back is empty, and the fuse holder is gone. Does anyone know a fuse holder that will fit? The first one I ordered seems to be way too large and sticks out quite a bit. Ampeg was not very helpful telling me to "just look around on mouser." Im assuming the fuse I ordered is fine (I just looked up what it said above the fuse cavity), but it hasn't arrived yet.

Well, after a lengthy delay getting the warranty tubes from the distributor, I have the V-4b back again. All I can say is, Wow!

Thank you to people who chimed in and gave their perspective. I realise it's just bad luck to have a power tube go. Nothing wrong with the amp, per se. The tube blowing took out a few resistors and some other things, the tech said.

The distributor supplied Ruby Tubes. I only played the Jj's for 20 minutes so couldn't possibly make a comparison but it simply sounds good as is now.

Found an old EV TL15 for $100 in perfect working order last week, so got that and the Rumble V3 115 running together. Looking forward to rehearsal tonight.

If it makes you feel better, I've compared JJ and Ruby 6L6GC's in my PF-50T, and I don't notice a difference in tone at all. Rubys were suggested to me when I was kind of down on JJ 6L6's but they seem to have gotten their act together because the JJ's in my V4B have lasted 3 years so far, whereas I never got more than 3 months out of a set before. But I'm not unhappy with the Rubys in my PF-50T or my old 73 Super Reverb.

Invalid Link Removed just made an amp cover for me that is incredibly well built and their customer service was just as good. It was also built and shipped two days after I ordered it. I've had a couple of Tuki covers and have nothing but good to say about them but Studio Slips just stole my business.

Similar story in my Super Bassman re power tubes.
I've still got the original GROOVE TUBES That Fender supplied with it. They've not hiccupped and sound great.
I'll only be changing em if they present a problem.
The original power tubes in my V4B - JJ's I presume - are all good so far too.
I, like @JimmyM, won't be spending any big bucks on any NOS or whatever power tubes when the time comes. In both amps it'll most likely be a new set of what's in there now.

The slight lilt is due to a missing foot on the amp. The cover is a perfect fit.

*There was also discussion of a cheaper, non-padded amp cover that someone folded in half and used for their V-4B, but I didn't bookmark it.

I'm going to look back over this stuff in the next couple days and decide.

Here is another amp cover option. It is a basic vinyl slip cover which protects the head from dust and light. I like piping as it adds a little ridgidity. An advantage of this type of cover is that it easily folds for storage. Price is affordable at $32+options.

There are two models covering both the vintage and reissue V4B amps.
