If the Ampeg 212 cab is anywhere close to how the UBER sounded, it should be a killer.

2013 Ampeg V-4B 100W Reissue Pt2

I used to feel the same way about 12's till I owned a GB UBER 212. That cab kicked major butt. It sounded huge with any head I ran it with.
If the Ampeg 212 cab is anywhere close to how the UBER sounded, it should be a killer.
I haven't played through the two 2x10's but with the 212av I had my svt classic at 8 gain, 8 volume using a passive fender american jazz bass and the speakers had no problem handling it.
No way can a little V4B hurt a pair of 210's - with 100w into 400w of speakers you can turn the gain and master up to 10 and wail away. It takes over 100w into one of them cabs to fart it out. My Micro-VR head goes well into overdrive on one of the cabs no prob and that is 150w.
LOL! True dat, but I think RR is likely right. I've not tried to dime my V4B into two of them, but I think it could likely handle it, although it could possibly send your cabs into Xmech, which is the space between the xmax (free cone movement) and total blowout. Won't blow them right away, but it will heat them up and cause wear. For that reason, I've been a little iffy about doing it. Now turning it up into the distorto zone, that I've done. I just haven't tried to peak it out. Don't really have a need to do it, either, and the only amp I've ever been able to get away with peaking out on a gig is my B-15.Don't want to get into a tube vs solid state/"watts is watts" sidetrack........
I expect you are right, Jimmy. Truth be told, I trust my ears and if I thought the gig would push them too much I would simply take a different speaker (or a whole different rig). Currently playing the V4B/2 x 210 rig four nights a week for a theatre gig till the end of the month and it puts a huge smile on my face every time I walk through the theatre door.
Ya, it's an excellent theater rig. Not too big and obtrusive but big enough to fill out the room.
So this gig...is it a play or a band gig? Are you in the pit? PA?
Small theatre, Jimmy, about 250 max at a pinch I suppose. Playing for Grease but the band is raised out of the pit to be visible and part of it all. Sax and keys mixed but there was no need with the bass - the Ampeg rig fits in the mix perfectly. All singers mic'd through an Allen and Heath desk I noticed when I was sniffing around. I discouraged the tech from taking a DI at the start as I was rather hoping I would be able to push the rig a bit without being told to turn down and so it proved to be. To be honest I was surprised as the bass is pumping behind me, yet the band and the FOH are all saying it sounds great. Bass player bliss

I saw Grease in Melbourne recently, last year I think... If it's the same production, wow ! The band is a huge part of the show
212AV or 210AV for a Modulus 5 string? I am thinking of a pair of one or the other. I have been wanting the V4B reissue since last summer when I ALMOST pulled the trigger.
Rocking the v4b at a festival two weeks ago. I never received so many complements on my bass tone after the set! People were amazed I was running straight into the head with no pedals to get that thick over driven sound. The v4b is awesome!
I have been close to pulling the trigger as well. One thing I did want to ask other guys on here is how much noise does the amp make since it does not have a fan? When I am at home I will say my SVT Classic fan can be annoying how loud it is when I am practicing at very low levels.
It doesn't make any fan noise, that's for sure. Fans of the amp do make some happy noises when they play.

When you say push the rig a bit I'm curious as to what your settings are?
Tones about noon with switches off. Master and gain about eleven o'clock. With the active Sadowsky I have the volume about one third to half and don't overdo the bass boost. Standing on a raised hollow stage which probably adds a bit of boom but it all works out fine. I really am getting great tone out of this, if they put too much through the house and I was turned down I am not sure the tone would be as appealing - to me anyway.
Is anyone else having trouble with the site at the moment? My page has gone to a different format, does not show everything and there is no log in/ my talkbass appearing so that I can check it out.
I'm not currently having troubles but I have in the recent past. I just keep refreshing, or I quit the browser and start over if that doesn't work. Usually it does.
Thanks Tim1. I have found the EQ to work well at noon but just cut treble slightly. I generally run the gain around 10:30 to 11:30. I have not found a bad tone in this amp yet. I have used the ultra low a few times for just a nice round bottom when playing with acoustic guitar only.
Tim, right around the time you posted this on Friday, there was some TB system work going on. Something had broke as a result and it might have been related to your problem.
