2013 Ampeg V-4B 100W Reissue Pt2

Heck, except for the, I'd imagine, formidable ship costs involved @Bass 45, I'da offered to swap my two 112AV's for your Heritage 410HLf, if that was even an option. Been wanting to try that 410 with my ri-V4B. Although weight is not a huge issue with cabs for me, I too use a folding, 4 wheel cart with a fiberglass platform. Then I can just tilt n slide my 212AV into and out of back of SUV and wheel cab and amp around easily. But I do recall my SVT-410HLF back in the 90's being quite a heavy mother to roll around on the two back casters using the towel bar. No small folding carts back then so had to stoop over a lot.
But good luck with your new to you-to be 212AV ya got coming. Here's hoping its an easy, quick fix so that you can be enjoying a pretty darn great cab as soon as possible. Let us know how it all works out.

Thanks for the swapping idea - I am not writing off the H-HLF yet - I really do dig it - but if the 212 sounds like I imagine it does, it is more likely that my PF cabs will be on the chopping block - but we shall see.
I used a '90's HLF from about '96-2001. That thing probably weighed 50 pounds more then the Heritage.
Here is a link to a video of me playing the reissue V4B through the Heritage 410HLF. I hesitate to post this as it was an awkward gig - but I do remember the audio having my true bass tone - the vocal pa was horrible though - and distracting. Since this video was recorded I have started boosting the high mids more - but I still dig this tone too.
A source of line noise, 60 or 50Hz, is the heater circuit. The AC has a way of getting into the signal path and manifesting itself as a low frequency hummmm. What they did in the V4BR to minimize this AC noise is use a DC voltage to power the heaters of the small tubes. The small signal tubes deal with lower level signals and are more prone to picking up noise. This technique is often used in high end preamps where studio quality noise floors are desirable.
They did other things in the design to help with noise. As a result, the V4B is quieter than many other amps designed in the past.
Oh man, how good is that. Hope that the issue is something simple like a broken wire.

The one we tested for the review (and which I bought following the review
) is dead silent (when it's not amplifying my signal).

+1 My Mesa's are also very quiet when not actively playing through them.
Would anybody advise against using the two screws on each side of the v4b as handle anchors? I'd like to get rid of the top handle and use two side handles if possible.
Don't know what happened with the one I bought (and returned). It might be me, I'm very picky about noise, but the dealer keep saying it's normal. So be it!
The dealer is going to say that to make life easier for themself. Too bad that they didn't have a second one in stock to compare it to.
SO I bought another V-4B. In fact, I'm waiting for a brand new in box one, and the store just let me borrow his demo while I wait. Still has a low 60Hz and also 120Hz on the the speaker with master volume at 0. There's also plenty (to me) of noise on the XLR out. I begin to think this is normal with this amp, as it's the second amp I buy and still have the same problem. I understand that this is tube technology. It has a very nice tone, but it's not clean at all, regarding noise, compared to let's say my TC RH450!

I dunno. Mine is silent through my cabs (tweeter loaded) when idle at home volumes.
I don't think it's noisy at all at gig volumes, but I can't say it's silent for sure because there is usually a lot of ambient noise in the venue.
It's as quiet as any other amp I own.
I've never used the XLR on it to comment on that.

It's definitely not a problem at gig volumes, that's for sure!! But it's there. Especially on the XLR. I would say it has about 40 to 50 db of noise floor, which is quite poor by today's standard. I already feel that the soundmen I work with will ask me to use a DI, and I won't like that.......

I don't like the XLR out not because it's noisy I just can't get a hot enough signal for recording I ended up buying a U5. I can't understand the noise issue I definitely believe you. Is the noise the same level at both the store and your home? is it louder with a bass plugged in? and what happens when you plug into the -15db jack?
