I was 11 days old. Not to make you guys feel old or anything. ;D

I was 29 playing in a 3 piece country n rock band at an Elk's lodge where the guitarist's Father was a member. It was always a good New Year's gig and paid really well. We'd do after hours too and get a bonus. Used to walk away with around 700 to 800 bucks each on those gigs. Good money back then for a bunch of local yokels. :D

Are you kidding? That's good money now!!!

Jimmy dead serious I really wish I could be making that kind of cash now for a gig. We were pretty good for 3 piece and had a show downpat. If we wanted we could actually undercut most of the bands in town and still make a decent payday. The Elks on New Year's was always the biggest payday for us.

On an average gig we usually took home 90 to 100 bucks per night each. Bar scene was way good back then lots of steady work. Played in that group for about two years.

Oh geez, our setlist was all over the map...BOC, AC/DC, Beatles, Cars, Clapton, Thin Lizzy, Jethro Tull, pretty much anything but southern rock ;)

Just looked at your list...LOL! It's pretty all over the map too. But we were a 3-pc rock band so Spandau Ballet was right out.

Jimmy, what songs were in your set back then?

Check this hit list. At least the Stray Cats were around which helped revive some of the good stuff. I figure it wasn't Abba's Super Trooper. :p
Fascinating chart, funny to see the differences between the US and UK (at least if my memory still works--I turned 17 that year).

Acts I've never heard of that probably never had a US hit: St. Winifred's Choir :D, Jona Lewie, Chas and Dave, Barron Knights, Dennis Waterman, Nolans, Showaddywaddy, Mike Berry, Stephanie Mills, Racey.

Good/great UK acts that should've had a US top 40 hit but likely never did: Boomtown Rats, Status Quo, (English) Beat, Specials, Kate Bush, Bad Manners.

Yes, it is interesting to look at UK vs US hit charts. Some obscure bands can be huge in the UK and Europe. Even today with world wide marketing, there are a lot of differences in tastes. Bands like Oasis were gods in the UK, not so much in the US.

You can listen to Invalid Link Removed programming on the internet which is pretty interesting.

Absolutely. Back in the day, The Jam had plenty of UK hits but barely made a dent here. Thus, I never got to see them live.:(

Thanks for the link!

Hmmm...I wonder when is the last time it snowed in Ft. Lauderdale.

:D
1977.:D [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I didn't actually see the flurries on my way to school (Hollywood Hills High), but I'm told they melted by the time they hit the ground.
