2014-2015 NHL Regular Season Thread

Boston has a couple defense-men out and they still keep on winning. Chara is probably overrated anyway, especially since they keep winning with him out, might as well trade him for something better. :D

-Mike

Mike - don't hold your breath for that trade - the B's know how much Chara means to them. The B's are now up to 4 injured D: Chara, Krug, Miller, and Marshfield's own David Warsofsky. It is almost as bad as being the drummer for Spinal Tap.

However, it does appear that the other Bruins rely on him too much and play a bit looser with him out there since they are confident that he'll bail them out. Without Chara, the rest of the Bruins (not just the D) are stepping up their games. If Chara comes back at anything like full strength (and at his age, that's a big IF), his injury may in fact turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Less overall wear and tear on Chara, plenty of time to get back into the swing of things when he gets back, and improved skills and confidence among the rest of the team.

Miller and Krug are skating again, not sure when either will be cleared to play. I wonder if either has ever heard of Wally Pipp?

I called them to complain and asked why they give us MSG but block the Rangers games to get us to pay for Center Ice, but they don't do that for the Flyers broadcasts. If they did, they would get more people to pay for Center Ice in the area (theoretically anyway because Philadelphia fans are notorious bandwagon jumpers). So I guess Comcast has some agreement to keep the broadcasts free or their "fans" would disappear and forget hockey even exists.

Flyers fans are "notorious bandwagon jumpers"?!?!? Hahahahahahah. You're delusional.

Really like what I'm seeing from the Flames. They now have most goals by their D and most wins on the road for any team in the league. I don't know what the average age of these guys are, but I'm pretty sure they've gone from the oldest to one of the youngest averages. A lot more fun to watch guys like Brodie, Monahan, Gaudreau, Bouma, etc., at the beginning of their career than Iginla (albeit still sorely missed), Jokinen, Tanguay, Camaleri, Boumeester, who were nearing the end of theirs. They end the current road trip Monday in Columbus.

Canucks finally broke their curse in SoCal. Two wins in SJ and Anaheim but a bad loss to LA. The Ws against Anaheim and SJ were close calls and by no means a blowout, but their only loss in LA was a big one.

They got tons of stuff to work on before they can compete strongly in the California Death Valley, as I like to call it, but nowadays, San Jose is just looking average while LA and Anaheim continue to be strong.

Did anyone catch the news that Patrick Sharp is out 3-4 weeks with a lower body issue?

Everyone will be talking about the amazing goal from Griffith in the NJ/BOS game, but how about Jagr? Goal #3 on the season.

Jagr's goal was very impressive - his patented curl in from the halfboards then a laser 1/8"-1/4" above Rask's pads. It is amazing how strong he is on the puck. Griffith's was an end-to-end marvel - he created the chance with his block of a shot and his speed and strength on the ice - the between the legs shot was just the icing on the cake. Most of the time you are lucky to see one goal of that quality every few games; it was a treat to see two great goals in one game.

It was interesting to watch a game where the Bruins were the faster team. Also, Schneider was not that sharp - did the B's catch him on a bad night or is he not that good. I used to think he was every bit as good as Luongo and deserving of being a #1; now I'm not so sure.

Krug is back so not we are only down 3 d-men. I'm not sure how long they can keep this run going without Chara, but they are exceeding my expectations.

Yeah, I didn't mean to take anything away from that amazing goal from Griffith. I'm just a huge fan of Jagr. Like I was with Selanne, I will be sad when/if Jagr retires from the NHL.

-Mike

Me too. Obviously his production is not where it once was but to produce the way he has, and still is, year over year for this long and at this age is incredible. Same went for Selanne.

I'll take the Rangers tonight. They are like Philly, they take space and speed away from the Pens. That's how you beat Crosby and his crew.

-Mike

Dang, Mike! You're some kind of soothsayer!

Great shutout, including defenseman saving Henry on one.
Speed is key.

On another topic, can the Islanders keep this up?

Thanks buddy. I've been watching enough of the Crosby led Pens to have a good idea how to beat them.

Gonchar on the move again, this time to Montreal. I don't like seeing him moving around the NHL like he has.

Wow, did anyone watch the SoCal rivalry game? I am sad LA lost in SO, but wow, that was one HECK of a hockey game! It just shows which teams from California are the strongest. The Sharks, most likely, would have been crushed by either team in that setting. Insane! Saturday they meet again, this time at Staples. Monstrous.

The duct tape and baling wire finally gave way last night in Toronto. After a first period that was 1-0 Leafs only because of a few outstanding saves Rask, the Leafs exploded and the B's imploded so that it was 4-0 before the ice dried. The B's could do little right and the Leafs could do little wrong. While it appears that the banged up B's are good enough to compete with the less skilled teams, they were exposed by a talented offense last night.

I am NOT looking forward to tonight's game in Montreal. If the B's come out with a point I will be happy.
