2019 Gear Purchase Plans

I picked up a used Alpha Omega Ultra last year. First time the MXR M-80 has been bumped out of the chain. What a great pre amp-eq and the dirt goes on forever.

I love my Ovnilab Smoothie, but I’m intrigued with the hyper luminal. $250 new isn’t bad for a great comp, but I try to stick with used gear. They’ll be going for $200 soon enough, once the “new” wears off.

I have 2 custom Build Devon basses being built. Should receive my cocobolo next month sometime and my Buckeye Burl sometime the month after. Been a long wait but will be worth it for these 3 beauties.

I’m buying NOTHING ZERO NADA! Spent way too much in 2018 and I’m still paying for it. I’m historically weak when it comes to resisting the urge to splurge but so far(13 days) and I’m looking at it like a challenge not to spend a dime. I have more strings and straps and anything else I could think of buying. I may single handedly cause a recession but I don’t care.

Not going to buy any new gear. If I see something used (a good fretless) that's a really good deal I might snap it up. However, I don't really need bass gear.

What I do want is a better recording setup, so my gear plans include a pair of studio monitors, a decent keyboard/workstation, and maybe even an electric drum kit for midi input (I hate programming drums). So those are my plans for 2019.

I have some stuff on my wish list for this year but none of it is bass related. I bought a Marshall DSL 100H off of a band mate last year and I want to get the matching Marshall MX412AR cabinet. That's $499. I'd also like to get at least one nice condenser mic for voice recording. I'm sure something bass related will catch my eye and require purchasing but I'm not seeing anything at the moment.

I hope to get a new bass at some point this year, but not sure what I will get, though more than likely a Fender. Got my eye on a few different models:

USA Geddy Lee Jazz
AmPro Jazz
AmOrg 60's P or 60's J

One possibility is to hit up the Mod Shop. I used to own a 1997 MiA Jazz that had a white blonde finish over ash with a maple fretboard, and that combo was amazing. But, I had to sell many years ago and it was a rare finish combo for a Jazz. I can have one made through the Mod Shop for $1800. Of course, I am keeping an eye on Reverb as well.

I have no plans for buying any music gear. However, I do have plans for selling/gifting quite a bit.

Now that we’ve (my SO is a musician too) recently moved to a smaller more easily manageable house, we can’t be quite so cavalier about how much space our music gear is taking up. We have enough to equip three or four bands as it is So unavoidable inventory reductions loom ahead.
