2022 Bass Acquisition Round Up

Not a new one, not an essential player, just a 1980 Peavey T-40 that needed a good home. NOT in a dark damp closet, but out on a guitar stand in my studio/office.
And I bought myself a new bass wireless system AND a new wireless IEM system.

You are so right about how a bass should be played and not stuck in a closet. However, there are probably more basses than players. Some DO get relegated to closet status. This is a BEAUTIFUL T-40, and I KNOW it sounds good. I am glad to know it is getting played.

A Ric 4003 Jetglo and an Ibanez EHB1505
For amps, a Hartke LH1000 and a Fender Rumble 800.
Various cables, strings, tuners, etc.
For pedals, a Genzler Re/Q.

No doubt about that! I was glad I was in the position to pick up this one.

I gotta admit, I'm not gonna gig it for a few reasons (hint: the W word is one of those reasons...). So far, it's been played every couple of weeks or so. Sounds great every time.

I had two acquisitions this year. I have always wanted a Fender Marcus Miller Jazz, and unfortunately I sold the Stingray to (over) fund that purchase. But still two basses this year:

I WILL be keeping all but the red Steinberger, the EBMM Raspberry Burst 5 string Sterling and the Copper Drop EBMM SR Special. I'm on the fence about the 91 SR 5. I love how it sounds, but it needs some fret work. The Ibanez sold, quite quickly, but not on TB.

Sorry for the double post of pics. I had a great side gig last year and also topped pouring money into losing stock funds. The result was buying all of these basses. I WILL be keeping all but the red Steinberger, the EBMM Raspberry Burst 5 string Sterling and the Copper Drop EBMM SR Special. I'm on the fence about the 91 SR 5. I love how it sounds, but it needs some fret work. The Ibanez sold, quite quickly, but not on TB.

I’m a sucker for Fender Player basses!

First pic: 2020 Player body (stock pickup, vintage bridge, aftermarket tort guard) with 2018 Player P neck. Rotosound SS strings.

Second pic: 2018 Player body (CS62 pickup, stock bridge, stock guard) with 2020 Player P neck. Rotosound RB45 NPS strings.

I got the white 2020 Player P stock and immediately swapped necks as my 2018 one felt the most comfortable and I was going to make white/tort/maple my #1 bass.

I have plans to add a Player or Squier CV Jazz to my arsenal in 2023.

My Eastwood MRG was ordered in September 2022 and was due to arrive in December 2022, but has been pushed back to January 2023, so that is not in the list.

I haven’t been very GASsy for a few years, but I have wanted to add a Stingray special to my small collection. This year I finally found a great deal on one in a finish I really wanted - a Vintage Tobacco Burst 2019 SR5HH in virtually new condition and with two additional pickguards (the after market tort is on it now and then I have the original white and a unused parchment, which I’ve been tempted to put on it). If I didn’t already have my 2007 SR5HH, this would be my clear #1, as that 2007 has been for the last 15 years. But I can’t pick between them, so they share the #1 spot.

The Specials are just outstanding basses!

Planning to give my 2007 a rest on our New Year’s Eve gig and use the Special for all four sets. Looking forward to hearing it do it’s thing!

I posted this picture earlier this year, but worth repeating, as I'm extremely happy with it!

G&L LB-100, "1959" Option Order:
- Quartersawn Maple Neck, 1.75" nut width, vintage tint satin finish
- East Indian Rosewood Fretboard, 9.5" radius
- Himalayan Blue over Alder
- 4-ply Tortoiseshell pickguard

I'm keeping the stock pickup, as there's nothing wrong with it-- it sounds like a P-bass, nothing more, nothing less!

I am, however, swapping the black pickup covers for Cream, and I have a set of Curt Mangan 45-105 flatwounds currently in shipment to string it with.

The LB-100 is, in my humble opinion, the final word on the classic P-bass as Leo (initially) intended it!
