2022 Bass Acquisition Round Up

I bought no basses, bass strings, effects or amps this year.
About all I can recall buying this year was yet another dulcimer and some strings for mandolin and dulcimer and saz.
I promise to do more in the coming year.

I sold a Peavey T-45 and a Schecter Model T Session, and donated an LTD F-104.

3 in, 3 out...

Hopefully, 2023 will be about getting the most out of the basses I have now, and really learning how to mod and build and rout and properly wire/solder.

That is an awesome amp- one of the best combos I've ever had. It doesn't like being up past halfway on the volume though

It's a great amp which I got for an absolute bargain at a local thrift store. It doesn't need to go over halfway by the way

My Eastwood MRG was ordered in September 2022 and was due to arrive in December 2022, but has been pushed back to January 2023, so that is not in the list.

Always been curious about those slim bodied Deans.

It took us a little while to get on the same page as one another — the neck is a little more shallow than my ideal, and it has quite a strong personality — but now very comfortable with it. Easy to play clean on, and has a beautifully deep warm tone.

2022 was the first year in a long time that I didn’t buy a bass.
In fact I downsized from 12 to 7, in preparation for a move to Portugal. (I had 2 others I tried to sell,but no takers).
I’d love to get that Alembic Epic on offer here on TB, but I still have 4 of my basses to bring over.

I bought the Sandberg and Amethyst in late 2021. The BFR models were both purchased this year 2022.

Bought and sold this one in 2022.
Purchased a Fender Rumble 500 last month.
No plans to buy anything but maybe strings in 2023. I just stocked up on strings yesterday so I might not even buy those in 2023.

I wasn't going to buy anything this year really but...

1) Epiphone EB-0
With nylon tapewounds. Pretty cool little bass. It does this thing that only this kind of bass does.

2) Harley Benton JJ55OP and JP55OP
In 2021 I 'got used to' 5 strings, and these HB models are delicious... so I got one of each, an active Jazz and a passive PJ configuration. Pretty light for 5-ers and that shape is so comfortable.

3) SBMM Ray35
I wanted a more Stingrayesque vibe than my passive HB MB-5, and this happened. Heavy thing but the sound is glorious.

4) Batking u-bass, fretless
little 20" scale bass with rubbery strings... a lot of fun. Takes some adjusting to the small scale being fretless, but it's great fun once you do. Nice thump.

5) Gold Tone ME-Bass fretless
The 20" is fun, but the Gold Tone is solid body (the u-bass battled with feedback in a rehearsal room, so solid body takes care of that), with a 23" scale length with makes it a little bit easier to play, and it's overall the better bass without question. It can also take standard flats, so it doesn't need to be just the rubber type of strings... although that's the sound I want from it.

Received this (1981 Peavey T-40) from my wonderful wife for Christmas. 10.6 pounds.

Just under the wire for 2022. It's an incredible thumper!

2022 was embarrassing for me. I only have 4 basses in my current possession, and my list is insane. My goal for 2023 is to have a much shorter list.

FWIW: i've been an advocate of the idea: you can make your own FSO custom-built for "less than half" of off-the-rack comparables. making some effort (assembling from parts) to save some money isn't always right for everyone, but it's an option worth considering if you have some common tools and a little skill, patience, and interest!

ha! thanks, kipp! i've unglued myself from "all black, all the time" since i started my parts-basses journey a few years back....it's been colorfully rewarding!
