Ive almost always had at least a spiro E on my bass. Curently have a 4/4 Weich set with a Polychrome G. The more the Polychrome settles the more I note that its just a little different from the rest of the set. Its perfectly workable, and sounds and plays great, but my OCD wants me to have a matching set...

I may be into this.
I played on that combo (with variations/experiments) for a few years now and this year it was the same 3 Spiros but with G experiments (Oliv, Perpetual). The polychrome/Spiro combo has worked really for me. But recently I put on the weich G and the benefits derived from a full set of one kind of string just can’t be beat.

I don’t care for thin gauge strings, which I why the weich G has not spent much time on my bass. But earlier this week, Kieran O adjusted the sound post and also adjusted the nut for the G string, and now the full set is very nice. The G has a very full tone and is punchy now (like the other 3) and so I don’t object to it like I have in the past.

So for me, Troy’s challenge is easy — it’s simply a matter of embracing the many benefits of a full set!

I've had Mittels on my bass for most of 2021 after revisiting EPs and a Dom DG Spiro EA mixed set for a bit early this year. Spiros are the best string for me on the bass I currently have, and unfortunately for my wallet, sometimes I forget that.

Looks like I don't meet the requirements for this challenge, otherwise I'd be in!

If you experimented with strings in 2021, you're eligible to participate in 2022.

For people who have already spent a least a year with nothing but Spirocores, I think we should ask them to sign on as judges for the odd cases that will come up.

I may be very close to participating. I have a bass on order that will start its life with S42s, but I probably won't receive it until well after the new year. Other than a delayed start date, I was more or less going to do this anyway.

I think that a late start under these circumstances should be okay. Let us know when you get your bass.

I request a rule re-negotiation:

Change from Spiros only, to...

Not change any strings on the DB for a whole year, except due to technical string failure.

Given how deep the string rabbit hole is, this might catch just as many rabbits. ;)

No???

Ah, I think we should keep this one Spirocores only. I find it interesting that this thread has hundreds of views in <24 hours, Spirocores are thought to be the "gold standard", yet only 3 people have signed up. Curious!

So when can we expect delivery on our new set of strings?

You know what? You should go wait by your mailbox like Charlie Brown hoping to finally get invited to a New Year's Eve party.

Thanks for the Christmas card Violet!

Got it. Sorry, misunderstood your original post. I'm in!

Maybe it's because
a. We don't know what the prize is; or,
b. Some of us prefer other strings.

Just sayin' ... :smug:

Lots of ways to skin the cat. My goal is a solid decade with my recent conversion to spiro mitt E/A with perpetual stark D/G, and request admission to a sub-branch of this social experiment open to any strings on a longer time-frame

So current Spirocore users are not eligible?

If you didn't waiver in the last 12 months, then sadly, no you're not eligible. You've already proven yourself.

Thanks for engaging! Request denied!
