If your bass speaks better under tension, then S42 Mittel are the easy choice. Arco issues with Spirocores are generally thought to be overstated for non-section players. I would GUESS that the right set for your bass would probably be the right set for your bass, whether arco or pizz, but it's a guess.

The s42 Mittel G-String is GLORIOUS on my bass, arco and pizz. But the full set stresses my bass out in ways that make me uncomfortable.
That’s what concerns me. The sound post is waaay out in center field. It thinks there’s a righty batter trying to push a hit.

Then have a luthier install them for you and try things with your setup while you are there. That's the 100% best way to give a set of strings a fair chance anyway.

I just put mine back on (20 days early), but I may take mine into the shop to have a look-see as well.

Fear has no place in this dojo.

As a string newb who's never tried a full set of Spiros, am I missing an important rite of passage if I don't commit to a whole year with 'em?

I was going to wait until my obligato D and G die the rapid death they're known for, but it's been a year and a half... maybe they've already given up the ghost and I just don't know it yet.

Yes. If we were meeting in person, the tribal elders would dress you up in animal skins and you would undergo the bass version of the mushroom ceremony from Altered States, then you would be sent out into the wild to stalk "the sound". Depending on the outcome, you might or might not eat a live goat in the process.

Love the compensated “torch” tailpiece—mine was a great upgrade!

I’ve had the 3885 Weichs since Jake finished rebuilding my Hofner about a year ago…so I’m out.

Good luck staying away from the Perpetuals!
