I am, for sure, a filter snob...
The GR2 & Wonderlove V2 are just different beasts. The GR2, being a streamlined Lovetone Meatball, is fat, nasty, & juicy but in all its glory it has a limited range of usefulness... it does what it does really well & its a particular kind of stank that you will instantly respect & admire... its funky & gritty & has a kind of vintage feel. It doesn't play all too well with other pedals in experience though, even with the fx loop, there's a certain degree of tonal coloring that takes place & masks other effects.
The Wonderlove V2 (Mu-tron III inspired) is a great filter as well, much more sensitive than the GR2 in terms of response, very bubbly & juicy but not as fat. The fx loop is great, it still colors your tone somewhat but it works well with other pedals. I dunno, it just didnt quack the way I wanted it to.

I’ve not played the original but I love my Barbanera. It’s super easy to dial-in and it gets as wet as you could like. I’m sure others could chime in with an actual comparison rather than my unhelpful recitation of how much I like it though.
The Barbanera seems interesting, but I read that the Level control is active even when the pedal is bypassed. That seems bizarre...
That does seem bizarre. But being a picky sort, these days I have all my pedals going through a loop switcher, so I never have to wonder about tone suck.
It looks like you have to preorder one on their website, they are out of stock. I assume there isn’t any other place that has them…?

Yes, even better than the original Moog & yes the gain is always on regardless of the pedal being activated just like the moogerfooger but I most always kept it at unity anyways so it was a non issue, some may view it a plus even
I picked mine up on Reverb from a local seller and saw another available from a seller near me on a U.K. bass forum, so they do come up from time to time. Sadly no ultra quick alternative I’m aware of. The guy that makes them is nice though so you could email him directly and see what the deal is.
They have always been pre-orders so yeah, theres a wait but I think its only ever been a couple months tops.
The MF-101 can do a downsweep, you just need an attenuverter (like what's on the cp-251). Run the ENV OUT of the MF-101 into the attenuverter, invert the envelope and run that back into the cutoff on the MF-101. It's kind of roundabout way and at this point pretty expensive if you don't already have something that can attenuvert but it is possible! I keep my MF-101 in a true bypass loop to avoid the always-on gain that some have mentioned. It's hands down the best filter I've ever used and caused me to sell my Wonderlove v1, Proton v1 and v3, GR2, and Mu-Tron iii over the years. It can take some accommodating, what with the TB loop and the attenuverters for downsweep, but nothing comes close to it IMO. Very curious to try the Barbanera at some point
Oh wow, never even considered that option. Does it sound just as good in down sweep?
The Barbanera doesnt have the env out & cutoff out that the Moog does, just line in & out & an expression jack.

I can confirm the MF-101 and the CP-251 combination sounds killer. You can also sweep down on the Moog with just an expression pedal, a TRS cable into the cutoff and setting the envelope amount to zero and the filter cutoff setting somewhere low to your taste.
The Moog and the original Mu-Tron III are still the ones to beat IMHO.
That Barbanera sounds very interesting though, and from what I can see combines both the MF-101 and some of the best features of the CP-251.

All this Barbanera talk and the even exchange rate of Euro to USD makes me feel itchy.
Looking to trade my Broughton Azure Drive for a Pike Vulcan or Vulcan XL if anyone has one they would be willing to let go of.
