If you’re wondering if you should drop $300 on the one on Reverb, I would advise against. The LBB is a solid boost, and the fixed EQ points for bass and treble (switchable 2-way) are nicely selected. That said, it’s still just a clean boost. It’s got good headroom and a healthy dose of clean gain on tap. But it’s not breaking the mold or anything.

Yeah - the PPB is a top class boost, especially if you want that little bit of gritty sparkle. My feeling on the LBB is it fills kind of a weird territory. If I want EQ options, there are more flexible and comprehensive options in that size enclosure. If I want a straight clean boost, I can get something just as good for cheaper, possibly in a smaller form. And if I want a boost that gives me something else tonally, the LBB isn't it and I would go for stuff like the PPB, Spark, etc.

Good luck deciding. I have the MkI & III. I wasn't in love with the IIIs sound compared to the I. Spencer modified the III to the original specs and it sounds close, but not exactly the same. I won't be getting rid of either now. HAHA!!

To my ears the mkii has more punch & more distortion with the tone dimed but the mkiii has something special going on, maybe it's the mids but it seems to cut through the mix more with other effects, its sharper whereas the mkii smoothes in like cream.. I dunno, I paid a pretty penny for both so would rather keep them than take a loss.

MKIII with the tone all the way off is the perfect "OC2, but more articulate" sound IMO. I've tried several analog octavers and Octabvre really works the nicest in the mix for me. Haven't tried the older versions though.

Mine is just after my compressor. Im looking to add a chromatron but those are hard to find, so a triungulo barbanera might be my next purchase.

Boom! I actually prefer the tone of the Barbanera, unless you need the effects loop & the down sweep I'd recommend it over the Chromatron.

The Barbanera sounds incredible with the Octabvre mkii for nasty synth funk

Beautiful Collection, most of those pedals are in my wish list, including the miura m2 or a ovnifx smoothie.

Adding a filter will totally complete that board! Awesome overdrive, and some fat synth bass goodness! Everything you need really!

My old Groove Regulator has been on my board for probably 10 years but it's getting crackly and the power input is loose. Not really usable right now. Nothing that can't be repaired but the guy I'd take stuff to vanished during covid and I've gotten no response from Spencer asking if he'd service it. I'm probably being a weenie but I love the thing to death and am loathe to give it someone I don't know to do the work. So my question for people who've used both is how does the Proton compare? Does it have the same nasty funk demon living inside it the Groove Regulator does?...or his cousin?

I'm sure this has been discussed more than once but a I didn't find anything definitive in a quick search of this thread and the fx forum.
