3Leaf Audio Club - Episode 2

Because of time zones.

Luckily enough, 11am PST is 8pm CET and 11PM PST is 8am CET. Both times suit Europeans (respectively 7pm and 7 am for the UK)

But look at Asia… that’s the best way to give everyone the same chance to get one wherever they live. No one was left aside with those selected times.

Well thought.

This exactly. I'm in Australia. The First drop was at 4:00am. Second Drop 4:00pm. Still not great if you are at work or something similar, but it is better then nothing. 4:00am wake up on a Monday Morning isn't something I chose to even entertain, personally speaking. :)

I might try to wake up at 4:00am to try for a Proton, as that is something I have been after for a long time now. But it depends on work the next day and other factors. Having another chance when it is light outside is always appreciated.

Update on the website, text pasted below:

June 12 - POST-RELEASE

Each wave sold out in less than a minute.

9 orders in the 2nd wave inadvertently ordered 2 pedals due to their shopping cart still having inventory from an attempt during the 1st wave. I had not considered this as a possible consequence of splitting the release into 2 waves (my fault). I have corrected those orders.

The sale provided some useful information. Payment method mattered. Apple pay users won the race. This is funny, because I wasn't even aware Apple pay was an option on the website. I’ve never tried Apple pay - I still type in my credit card number like a grandpa. Most of my efforts go towards design / manufacturing / ski season, so I haven't yet mastered ecommerce. People have been suggesting a shopping cart that reserves your spot with a timer to complete checkout, Ticketmaster style. I agree that this would be a much better system, but Squarespace does not have that functionality. I don’t love the idea of switching ecommerce platforms again, but if there's a way to implement it on Shopify I'll switch over for the next release. If you’re a web developer who can give me advice on this, shoot me an email.

I got fewer international orders than normal - perhaps due to the extra time of entering an international address. I feel bad about this because the purpose of the 11pm 2nd wave was to accommodate Europe/Asia/Austrialia time zones. Going to a timed checkout shopping cart should also solve this issue.

July release is PROTON. I’m using the mailing list now, one email per month with release info. I will try to also announce on Instagram but I’m not really a social media person so sometimes I forget that one.

I'm just really crossing fingers that the Proton goes slower like someone else mentioned.

5sg.

Yup! I remember when Spencer did the ultra black drop--now infamous for the printing mishap--that Protons were available for DAYS after the drop. So...maybe they'll last 30 seconds longer than the Dooms did?

Honestly, I m not sure I like it, but a solution to this race and to the common frustration would be to pick the customers randomly from a list of buyers that want to buy one.

That would make a pool of 500 or 1000 interested buyers, and 100 get randomly selected to buy one. They have 24 hours to complete their purchase.

That would be fair to everyone : national/international buyer ; experience / inexperienced buyers. You can't just skip the queue, use a bot. Scalpers would struggle too.

Or simply allocate stock to different continents. 100 released, 20 for the USA, 20 Canada, 40 Europe, 20 Asia/Australia. Could possibly be done with different purchase codes linked to stock levels.

Then any left over get put up for everybody 24 hours later.

Scalpers are going to use a VPN and it doesn not sold the need to be inhumanely fast

Sure, as long as they have a delivery address on that continent - it is not like you VPN in to Australia and then get it sent to the USA. Unless you have a mate on that continent who will accept the order and send it back to you, in which case there are already mail diversion services out there. Eith the speed these pedals were sold, and the slowdown / extra checks many payment platforms have with VPN's they won't have a chance.

You re probably right.

Okay some of these complaints and “solutions” for pedal drops are getting ridiculous, and I have to say something that this thread has needed for a lonnnngggg time:

1. Spencer doesn’t owe any of us s***. (let’s call this “Rule #1” going forward)

For 2+ years, I’ve watched this thread turn into a monstrosity. When I originally joined, I was hoping to see fun posts about pedal combos, sound clips, hell even a NPD…

But instead, for over the last 2+ years, I’ve shuffled through constant posts complaining about output, resell prices, f**k I’ve even seen some of you post your take on Spencer’s current mental health at the time (Please refer back to Rule #1).

A couple of months ago, some of you complaining about Chromatron resell prices were saying Spencer should get a cut of that. As soon as the man rose the price of it, we got everything from complaints to even a 5th grade level macroeconomics explanation. Hell, there’s a person on here that ADMITTED to being a scalper, and this person posts regularly in here like nothing happened.

I’d like to think there are some folks making creative art with their 3 leaf pedals, but from following this thread, it’s hard to not be disgusted by the 3 Leaf
Audio brand as a whole (seriously, a few of you in here are revolting). There are some boutique pedal companies whose creators post regularly on TB, and it should be a GIANT red flag to you all when Spencer hasn’t logged in since 2015.

Before going any further, let it be known that I snagged a Doom 2 yesterday. I came prepared with Apple Pay ready after waiting 2 years for a Doom 2 (reminding even myself of Rule #1 if I wasn’t able to get one). For those that have iPhones and didn’t get one yesterday, you didn’t lose to bots, you lost to someone who also has an iPhone but was quicker to the draw. Now that I have a Doom 2, I can finally put it to rest and unsubscribe from this toxic thread.

Last and most important, if you’re reading this Spencer, please don’t let this insufferable thread ruin something you enjoy.

Welcome to the internet. Hmmm. First ride I guess ? Have a seat and enjoy. Ahah.

I agree with you. Enthusiasts online are not always pleasant, especially when money is involved.
But don’t forget you’re among us too. It is our role, even me and you included, to keep this place pleasant, respectful and a bit more optimistic !

Even though I like 5th grade economics a bit too much as you wisely reminded it, I am sure we can have lovely conversations about our love for well made pedals :)

After missing out, I had a good time enjoying what I have and not worrying about what I don’t.
