3Leaf Audio Club - Episode 2

Received the Proton MK4 2days ago, been playing it a lot.

It's a fantastic filter! Very easy to use, sounds warm and fat, but still can make it quack more than I need. Feels good under the fingers to play and control the sound. For those that like to read, I've added the manual. Always fun I think.

Also nice that it's very difficult to get bad sounds out of it. I remember other filters I've used that are very sensitive and can spike hard, making you feel like you'll destroy your speakers. But not with this one, here you only get the good parts!

Still undecided if I prefer the range knob up or down. Probably will keep it at the down position at home keep for full funky goodness, but can see the up position being useful in a band to retain more low end.

My Neon Glow Mk. 4 Proton with my 5-string Sadowsky Metro Express PJ:

Complete signal chain: CAE/CAJ V-Comp tube compressor, 3Leaf Proton Mk. 4, & Tech21 Geddy Lee MP40 SansAmp

Played with pick at beginning and end, switched to thumb partway through.

I made a bass-centric YouTube short from this video - I actually did a bunch of different permutations while playing, from pick with the Proton, thumb + Proton, pick + Proton + MXR M288 Bass Octave Deluxe, back to pick + Proton. I thought I would do the whole just focusing on the bass, but instead went with a short with just pick + Proton:

One of my favorite things to do besides play bass and listen to music is to record. I used my Zoom H6 to record the bass (direct), 2 guitars (each mic'd separately), kick drum and overhead on the rest of the kit. For this bass-centric mix I muted the guitar mics, though they still come through the overhead. I picked up the Empirical Labs EL8 Distressor compressor plug-in during UA's Black Friday sale and put it on the bass, trying to bring out a little more of that crazy Proton growl!

I missed it! Not sure why, I got in right away, spent some time adding a new credit card, but I think the main culprit might be that I was in a rush and went via Instagram when I should've opened up the 3Leaf page directly on my computer. Oh well, hopefully I'll hate the color and will get one of the ones projected for 2026! 😅 Congrats to everyone that got one!

Santa brought an mk3.33 under the tree. Got to play a little this am and a/b w my oc2. Def not the same but boy does it sound good and the ability to go from sub to sub and clean is huge

Also it kind of sounds thin w out the overload on anyone else have that experience
