When I put the microscope on the MK3.33 with headphones, I hear a hifreq artifact that sounds like a soft octave-up fuzz effect that's not being filtered out. Anyone else hear that?

It is amazingly versatile. I designed a patch in an attempt to approximate the sound you are referring to and actually prefer it to the Octavbre sound. But I rarely have occasion to use it in my cover bands. It is not a classic bass synth sound. To me it has always been a substitute sound.
Agreed, from what I hear, the 3.33 has some synthy fuzzy distortion on the higher harmonics. Very pleasant, it makes the effect easier to use on its own
I asked Spencer about it.
It does not glow in the dark, it only reacts to UV light (which means that, if you turn off the UV light, it stops glowing).
It is like the rest of his HI visibility fluo pedals.
I wish my Chromatron would glow in the dark haha. Gray is the best finish by far !
I just picked this pedal up the other day because I was looking for a synthy sounding fuzz for my board. I saw some YouTube videos on this video and it sounded like what I was looking for. That said, I don't really know a lot about this pedal. I heard mention of different versions of the Doom 2 and I'm not sure what version this pedal is. The owners manual has a 2023 date on it. I only have messed around with the pedal a little bit so far because I've been pretty busy since I've gotten it. I like what I've heard so far, but I must say the output is really hot on this pedal compared to the rest of the pedals on my board. Does anyone have any favorite synthy fuzz settings they'd like to share with a newby?
This is a great pedal (not sure what version that is)!
I have this on one of my current church boards. Just awesome (I use it more in the dirt department).
My advice: experiment with it until it connects with what you want it to do (pedal ordering, tone, etc.)
In other words, how I use it may not be how you use it.

Note, I've been playing bass for 41 years and only have been using pedals for the last year or so. That said, I am quite the newby, but I'm trying... I started using pedals when I joined a multi-genre band. Before that, I played in a Classic Rock, Southern Rock and Country band and had no need for pedals.

Versions
There are three versions of the 3 Leaf Audio "Doom" fuzz
- You're Doom (second batched renamed to "Doom"), colloquially known as the original Doom or Doom 1
- Welcome To You're Doom (originally voiced version), colloquially known as the Doom 2
- Welcome To You're Doom (revoiced version), colloquially known as the Doom 2 or, occasionally, Doom 2.1 or Doom 2.5
- The latter two also have "High Gain Mod" versions, primarily aimed at guitarists.
The revoiced version has a new crossover frequency and substantially more gain. Spencer also renamed the "bass/clean" toggle to "x-over" and "you're/your" toggle to "your," but their functionality remains the same. Both versions of the Doom 2 are outstanding; this is not a question of "better" so much as two (slightly) different flavors of good.
You have the revoiced version. More specifically, you have the Blood Red finish which was the very first batch (100 units) of revoiced Doom 2s in June 2023. If you open up the pedal, you will see Spencer's signature and a serial number between 601 and 700. After this, Spencer switched to serial numbers internal to each batch. He also switched from white boxes to brown boxes.
Favorite Synth Settings
Keep that toggle switch on "you're" (up). The "your" setting is a more traditional fuzz sound, close to the original Doom. The "you're" setting is a more synthy voice, and is the core sound of the Doom 2.
Keep the "x-over" switch on "bass" (up) so the blend is low-passed and not full spectrum.
Leave the treble all the way up so you don't roll off any high frequency information. It's not a harsh pedal so, in my experience, there is no need to adjust this.
Set bass to somewhere between 10 o'clock and noon. (Or to your taste. However much low-pass clean you feel you need.)
Set midrange to taste. I find below noon to be more synthy, but that above noon cuts better in a mix.
Set gain to taste. Bass synth is often lower gain so start with a setting of 8 or 9 o'clock.
Set output volume to unity.
Engage both the MXR Bass Envelope Filter and Bass Chorus Deluxe. Feed the Doom 2 into these. For an even more synthy sound, put an octaver before the Doom 2 and play up the octave on your bass. For ultimate synthy sounds, swap out the Envelope Filter for an Iron Ether Xerograph Deluxe (or just add a Xerograph Deluxe--you certainly have room!) Since you want "synthy sounding fuzz" and not bass synth, though, this is probably unnecessary to achieve your tonal goals

I’m also just getting into the synth bass journey, and settled on going for gold with the 3leaf stuff after watching some demos. Between this and another post with your comparison of the Octabvre III vs 3.33 I feel likeI have a good grasp of exactly what’s on the way for me.

You're welcome! The Octabvre and Doom 2 are great places to start your synth bass journey. The Proton is as well, but the Iron Ether Xerograph Deluxe is even better when it comes to synthy filters.

Sadly, UPS lost the package with my Octabvre MK3.33 in late February. I managed to open a claim, and they declared it a loss, but now they will only communicate with the shipper, and I understand that the shipper will receive any refund due. Spencer hasn't been responding to my emails asking for a refund or return. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions besides filing a claim with my credit card company?

When did you first email Spencer? It's not unusual for him to go weeks without working on 3 Leaf Audio, especially during ski season.
