I spent some time with the Fatman over the last couple of days. It is seriously one of the most insane distortions I've heard. There are a couple of settings where it's not insane; in those cases it's just a really good heavy metal distortion with no loss of low end. But once you click on the "insane" settings, holy crap we're in earbleed territory now. Screeching and swooping and grinding of live raccoons.

I haven't used the Pickle, but I absolutely would not put this pedal in the same category as any Muff clone. It's an industrial-music chainsaw guitar-bass solo in a box, not a straight-ahead fuzz. Although, again, it can be set to a more straightforward distortion as well.

I'm going to agree with Bongo on this. The Pickle and the Fatman are NOT direct competitor. The fatman is a very good distortion pedal with not a lot of low end loss that happens to have the option of moving into shrieking death mode when needed. The feedback circuit that is 'lead mode' is seems pretty unique beast and needs to be handled with care else it leaps out and mauls you.

Here are a couple of pictures of my new and old one compared.

It's an optical transducer, not a theremin per se. But you get the idea, moving your shoe up and down over it does crazy sweeps of the distortion frequencies!

I figured it was similar, my friend has an optical theremin built into a sega genisis box and then a circuit bent little kids keyboard type thing that also has one. They are some of the most fun things to play with.

Hey Guys:

Took a solid 3 weeks to get my Fatman, but it came in today.

I played with it a little bit, but seriously, it's so loud it makes sound with my amp on ZERO. And not just a whisper! I don't know if that's good or bad, but for sure I'm gonna piss off the neighbors with this one. :bassist:

The rhythm channel sounds kickass. Definately my favorite distortion so far, and one barely needs to add any gain for a great sound.

Intial impression gripe? The ocillator portion is too loud. When I kicked it in it gets crazy loud. I turn up volume (center knob) and everything gets louder. I was hoping the regular fuzz signal would get louder to balance it out, but it didn't. Everything gets louder.

So what do you think guys, am I doing something wrong? I'll try it again later at a more appropriate hour and see if I can figure it out.

Monk.
