What you need to do on Reverb, like Craigslist, is set a price higher than what you're selling to sell it for and accept offers. If I set a price for a bass at $1000 with no offers accepted, it will sit. Set the price at $1200 and accept offers, if someone offers $1000 they'll think they're getting a bargain. Talkbass is becoming far less ideal of a place to sell. You basically need to include shipping which can hit $100 easily. Everyone wants rock bottom pricing and free shipping. Easier to just sell to Guitar Center.

I ignore any low balls on CL. They’re not serious buyers, they’re just hoping to take advantage of people that are hard up for cash and then will flip the item.

You take a risk. It’s a negotiation game on CL. If you go too low, than you don’t appear to be an interested buyer.

But if the seller takes an attitude of offense at a legitimate starting offer I walk away - even if I'd have gone for the original price. If you can't be civil where MY money is concerned I have no interest in your junk.

Just say that's too low and move forward, don't be an ass.

With basses that are not unique, I like to indeed pay about 60% of the new price, even if its only a year old or so.

With unique basses, ill pay more.

I'll go the OP one better:

Tine after time on eBay I've seen sellers who apparently waited to long to return an item try to sell it for exactly the price they paid - plus shipping. It's often an item that retails high enough to qualify for free shipping, so the seller expects the buyer to pay more than he did for the item while accepting no returns!

So...if I can buy from a retailer and get free shipping and a generous return policy, why would I buy from you? This kind of seller is seriously dreaming!
