I get your overall point though and over charging is not limited to Reverb. The prices are not set by Reverb, they are set by the individual sellers.

Yes--- I expect to pay around $900ish if it is 5 years old. But I sure am not paying $1360 including shipping!

I see a lot of fantasy pricing on eBay, Craig's and here. Occasionally stuff sells at that price. I wait and pay much less. People can see what the average used pricing is, here and on eBay by searching sold items so suckers paying high prices is that much more odd.

That we're individually and collectively on the last legs of history's greatest credit binge explains it all. The era of talking bass shopping all day while committing time theft at work won't last forever. Soon enough those people will lose their job and their credit credit.

Until that SHTF, I'll keep paying max. 60% of actual retail or lower for used stuff unless it's very important to me. And I'll keep getting what I want at those prices.

Exactly you get it. I agree the fantasy sellers are everywhere but I haven't found a good deal on reverb yet.

Is it wrong that I'm amused a 1975 Jazz Bass I bought for around $400 in 1988, now could bring more than $1000? And that Ric 4003 I bought new in 1980 for $485 and seeing others selling for as much as triple that amount? Funniest thing is: I don't plan on EVER selling either one!

Even funnier is what you could buy with that $1000 today vs. what you could buy back then for the same amount.

I was selling some pickups at a fair price at ebay and something that pisses me off is that people want stuff for free. I almost told a guy to F off when he sent me his offer.

Someone will list something on Kijiji that they paid 1000+tax for and list it for $1000 and say "save the tax". It sits there for ever and ever.
I have a friend that listed his house for sale at a stupid price because he doesnt care if it sells...but if he got a stupid number for it, hed sell and build again.

Most of us have no problem understanding how economics work, numbers are easy, its the idiots were still working on

My point is not that they don't have the right to list their stuff at stupid prices. By all means list your mint 2010 Jazz at $6000 for all I care. But that is because I am an actual seller and not a con-artist.

Just don't expect it to sell. Let it see on Reverb with the other 200 basses that have been listed at crazy prices for over a year!

I am selling my Xbox one now and switching back to PS4. Do I expect to get new cost of $359 for a used Xbox one with one game? NO- I listed it with a reasonable starting price of 50% off and will see what the market will bear. And guess what, it already has some bids and should actually sell.

The concept of Reverb is good. It's aimed at musical gear only. Lower selling fees, and a good layout. But the downside is that there is no listing fees, and no auction time period. This allows music stores and pawn shops to put stuff up there with no barriers. They can put a bass on there for a high price and just let it sit. There's no incentive to lower the price. They only need one buyer, and they get the sale. Reverb in turn gets flooded with a bunch of crap that sits there forever. Now if the seller had to pay a posting fee, and relisting fees, the amount of garbage would decline.

I love Reverb. If you shop wisely there are really good deal. I think half the gear I own is from Reverb. Stuff I could never afford to buy brand new.
