As for the people who think I am angry, not at all, I'm just laughing in amusement.
By all means list your used basses at double the price of a new bass if you want. (and sit back for a LONG wait while it doesn't sell)

I have a very simple formula for buying. Most big-box retailers have 15-20% off Street Price sales or coupons during each year. I decide which new model bass I want, and wait until I can take advantage of that, and that's how I buy new. When buying used, a different formula comes into play. I don't even look at used basses that are advertised within the 15-20%. I will consider those listed at 70% or lower of the original street price, and prefer to find them at 50% off street price. If I should ever resell something I bought, I typically list it for what I paid for it. My ownership during that period thus becomes "free rent". There is SO much used product out there right now, that patience will get you what you want. There's no reason to freak out about "asking" prices. Hold firm to whatever formula you choose and in time, you'll find it!

I am not even buying, just looking at one of the ads that popped up for Reverb.
But I have never listed anything used for new prices.

It's a s#!++y move for sellers to ask ridiculous terms. Either they are are poorly informed, or more likely they figure it's okay to scam unwary or unknowing buyers. But buyers should do their research before buying stuff. And overall, karma being what it is, I suspect that dishonest sellers ultimately will get their just deserts…I hope...
Send an offer for what you think ots worth. I've found that no matter what i list something for i get offers ridiculously below that. So, i put the price a hundred or two above what I want so that i can counter offer the ridiculous offers with something close to what I'll actually take. Lots of times it sells that way.
Damn I guess I have no choice but to purchase it now since I just saw the ad...
Reverb is a good website. It has helped me move a lot of gear that I would have otherwise been stuck with as I try to zero in on The One.
It is not the classified sale that bends, but the seller himself.
I see a lot of fantasy pricing on eBay, Craig's and here. Occasionally stuff sells at that price. I wait and pay much less. People can see what the average used pricing is, here and on eBay by searching sold items so suckers paying high prices is that much more odd.
That we're individually and collectively on the last legs of history's greatest credit binge explains it all. The era of talking bass shopping all day while committing time theft at work won't last forever. Soon enough those people will lose their job and their credit.
Until that SHTF, I'll keep paying max. 60% of actual retail or lower for used stuff unless it's very important to me. And I'll keep getting what I want at those prices.

The best solution I've heard so far, is to put up an ad in the same market for the same product at a reasonable price. This should get the message to the seller.

It is called Free Market. You don't like the price for the item, you pass. If that person wants to move the item badly enough, they'll lower the price to what the market determines. Or, maybe he gets lucky after a year or so and sells his item for his asking price.

6k total inventory moved in the last year. Items were listed simultaneously here and on reverb. I fail to see how retailers actually adapting to a changing environment is a bad thing, in the past a lot of revenue was lost by people who were unable or unwilling to see which way the wind blew.

One nice thing about buying on TB is the rating system. I don't do a lot of buying and selling here, but when I do I feel confident when I'm dealing with somebody who has a public track record.
As far as pricing--nobody's holding a gun to anybody's head. If you don't like the price, you make an offer. If your offer is refused you go on to something else. If it makes you feel good to call someone an idiot because you don't like how their merchandise is priced, that's your prerogative, but I don't see that it gets you any closer to what you want.

Typical Reverb. That place didn't waste any time becoming a cesspool for all the eBay scumbags looking for another avenue to hawk their overpriced wares from their crappy little "stores". I literally throw up in my mouth every time I visit that site.
I find folks overpriced there stuff on Reverb for the most part. I don't, I look at what the last similar item sold for on Ebay and list it for 20%-25% less and hope someone is happy with the purchase. I also list on here much cheaper than ebay when I am selling something.
