This is a little underwhelming.
I dig Old Smoothie. It's a reproduction of the prototype and the anniversary models are typically cool one offs that have a limited run so that's cool.
But the capri bass? I mean after years of EBMM doing their own thing and aggressively protecting their designs they come out with a P bass?
And the blog's description of the bass as their "first fully passive bass" is incorrect. Have they forgotten about the USA SUB line that was produced from 2003-2006? Those came fully passive.
I don't mean to pour cold water on this. I may play a Capri and love it. But this doesn't really strike me as all that exciting, or all that innovative. I expect more from EBMM.

They're not exactly treading new water with that one. It's just another p bass without the f name.
It's a compensated nut for better tuning. Look at Earvana.com for a similar product. (I know there was a lawsuit between EBMM and Earvana, but their website has a good description of the concept and some videos.)

I guess I'm the only one that thinks this, but i think Ernie Ball / Musicman is moving in the right direction. More guitar models out this year.

All I want is to have 1.5" neck width option for the Musicman Classic stingrays. Same radius, frets, finish; maybe they could make sterling necks with a stingray heel? They used to have the SLO necks, but they were for the the regular Rays. I might be tempted to be a ray only kind player, if that happened. Having the option for a "smoothie" pickup is nice for a change of pace, but to me not the best new thing they could offer.
I know, right? Not too mention the garbled mess of a press release they put out last summer attempting to describe which models / colors would be discontinued. It took me a few tries in a few different directions to get a straight answer if they where getting rid of the Sabre...for the third time.
I'd rather them just have a stingray H with the pickup moved to forward from the "Sweet Spot" to the Neck/P position. Maybe they could probably take the CNC program for the HH and just not rout for the treble pickup. Leave everything else alone. I have seen people modify Ps like that and they did enjoy the sound. They can offer new options like these, and give new flavors of the stingray recipe. A hideous passive P or J copy is not the way to go, we already have a million and one of those. Who is feeding them these lines of what the customers want?

I dd find the pic of the bass on what insinuates to be Ol' Leo's workbench a bit laughable. Sorry, EB, that's G&L's exclusive property, and if I were them, I'd be fairly pissed about you trying to "back into" that legacy. Shame on you.
