6 string precision, anyone?

I think a reverse precision pickup on a 6 might be an interesting idea. And complement that with a great preamp and perhaps something like a dual coil or a jazz pickup in the bridge might be interesting. I'd be interested in hearing such a bass. But I prefer think necks and the max string spacing on my basses is 17.5 mm.

I can't quite tell what that is, but it looks like my SX ash jazz 6er. I own two: One with flats and one with rounds. The idea originally was to have a fretted and fretless (a la Steve Bailey without the $$$$) version, but I got so impressed with the two kind of strings thing it never got converted. But since Rondo now has round two of these basses but this time in Alder rather than ash I just ordered another one to be fretless... this time for sure.

I got interested in these (I own a herd of conventional 6 string basses) for the Low-End, Steve Bailey, etc. idea of a 6 string Fender clone jazz bass. After tweaking these in I must admit that I really like that concept! But I'm not so hot on the usual single coil hum. I have no idea where you'd look for 6 string jazz dual coils. Finding 5s are bad enough.

What is your question? There was a big TB thread on the first batch and there are a couple of threads here now on the new batch too.

These Carvin pickups are stacked coils. I have them on my older 6 strings and they work great:

They also have them with Alnico magnets:

They sound really nice, not muffled at all but more "pingy" if that makes sense (Carvin calls it a "bell tone"). They are the same width as a Jazz Bass bridge pickup so you might have to do some routing on the neck cavity on one of those SX 6es.
Even though they have single coils available, I have the H50S pickups on all of my basses except the SB5000 because I need them to be quiet in the studio.
Since the string spacing is the same or a little tighter on the SX bass, they'd work fine as far as string coverage.
