'66 P good price?

The beauty part (for me) is that if I don't like it, I can return it for a refund less shipping. And if there's anything about it that doesn't match their description, I can return it for a refund and they'll pay the shipping.

So, buying it seemed pretty low risk. On the phone, they basically confirmed that the neck is all original, except for the tuners, and the original (pre-CBS) tuners are included. He just said one of them had something wrong with the post, I think. And maybe the original tuner screws aren't all there.

The refin is not the original color (which was, apparently, blue), but I don't care. I'm glad it's like it is. This way, I don't have to feel bad about it (or like I'm devaluing it) if I get the body refinished again, in a color I like better. :D If it sounds and plays like I expect, I don't expect to ever sell it, so no reason not to make it look just like I want....

Well I hope you hate it.
I call dibs.

I would throw the 3 good tuners back on and find a replacement off ebay or CL. Those tuners it has on it now aren't doing the bass justice at all IMO. Other than that, looks like you got a sweet bass for a sweet price! Or, if you really want it to look cool, get some paddle tuners on that '66!

I agree with both of you. The tuners that are on it look, ummm, poor. :)

And it is definitely begging for a refin. Sunburst is not my most favorite. Neither are tort p/gs. But, with the rosewood board, so far I haven't thought of any combo that I think would look better (or more classic vintage). I'm really a black/maple guy, but I just couldn't pass up this deal.

Tampa is very do-able for me. Thanks for that recommendation!

I was already contemplating a refin and getting the wiring re-done to be just like a Tony Franklin - i.e. a 3-way blade switch for the pickup selector and then just 2 knobs (Vol and Tone), so it looks as close to original as possible. I wonder if a p/g for a Tony Franklin would be a direct fit replacement. Hmmmm....

Gecko, I don't see how another refinish would hurt the value. It'll still just be a '66 P with a refinish job. And I agree with thebrain, if it looks good, and the neck is still all original, I think it would be worth more. At least, by a little bit. I doubt it would be more as much more as what the refin will cost. But, as you said, no, I don't care. :D

If you saw a '66 P with an all-original neck (as shown for this one), a nice sunburst nitro finish, and a nice tort guard with the controls re-done (from the way these are now) like a Tony Franklin, wouldn't you think it was worth at least, say, $2K?

Just raising the question. I'm no expert.
Yeah, I suppose its already refinished. Did you say it was blue originally? Do you know what shade?
Pat Wilkins does great work, or Marty Bell

... '66 huh?? ... I had a '66 Jazz that I sold in '72 ... was not one of my best moves ... I dont think I will ever be able to afford a birth year piece ... seen any inexpensive '54's around lately ?? ... enjoy!!

Once refinished the bass already takes the financial hit. A good period correct finish would do nothing except potentially increase the value.

Exactly, and thats potentially for sure. If you pay 500$ for a nice refinish , the value does not jump hugely but you should recover your 500$ back when selling easily.

Nice job , i think it would look great with a mild restore.

It's here! It's here! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

But, the box has a label on it that says "Temperature changes can cause finish cracks in your instrument! Please allow several hours for temperature to adjust before opening."

Arrrggghhh!!! The torture!!
