So a little bit of an update: I used the Joe Osborn last night to record with my band for a TV commercial (the one we did video previously and I was using the Washburn). Did it in one take, had both pickups up full and the tone too straight in the board. Sounded great by itself but sounded even better in the mix.

Why not two MM pickups!?....

I can answer those!

- Why not 2 MM?... the original logic of the 55-94 was to be able to get a reasonably good J Bass tone (which you can with the MM pickup with only the rear coil on mixed with the neck J, a reasonably good MM tone (kind of failed there, but it's at least in the ballpark with the MM solo'd an both coils on), and a reasonably good P sound (which you can with the front coil of the MM mixed with the neck pickup).

- Mid Sweep.... since you usually find the mid frequency of your preference, depending on your rig, you can do this with the many different mid frequency center DIP switch settings in the control cavity (the old Bart had 4 options, the new Lakland pre has dozens!).

- Pickup following the fretboard radius.... IMO, kind of a moot point with the relatively flat radius boards on your Lakland model.. more of an issue on low radius boards IMO. I found the strings very balanced on every Lakland I've played.

I'd taunt my grandson for a Hollowbody 5. Don't mess with our heads! Is this "just another rumour" or is it for real?

I would seriously start putting money away for a Skyline Hollowbody 5'er (3TS of course).

I think you will like the DJ with the J-retro.....I just got mine a few weeks ago and it had the Lakland pickups in it.....If yours is coming from the factory (and not dealer stock) yours will too.....Question - do you have the "Special" DJ J-retro? there is a special plate for the DJ as the plate curves more than standard Jazz basses......just asking - don't want you to be dissapointed...
PS - love your color choice!!! Same as mine!

I bought a Skyline Glaub on eBay last week, and so far I'm really liking it. It's a big departure from what I'm used to (I've never owned any 4-stringers or Fender-style basses before), but the tone rocks, even with these ancient roundwounds. I ordered a set of TI Jazz Rounds the other day (another first for me.) Can't wait to hear them on it!

I haven't taken any pictures of it yet, but here are a couple from eBay:

Only thing I'm not a fan of is the mint pickguard... It's too green for me (the pictures don't show it.) I've been looking for a parchment guard to replace it, or I might just go with white if I can't find one.

The SC-ND5 is made for the Hollowbody basses. It's a Neodymium magnet 5 string pickup inspired by the Bi-Sonic Darkstar pickups.

I have to wait until May as the stock is coming from the US to Holland to the UK so maybe they will be Lakland pups.
The pre will be retro fitted over here but I have been in touch with John East and he will send a template so the plate can be drilled accordingly.
The biigest change for me will be the neck profile- it's so much more chunky than the 55-94. The JO is prob a better match but I prefer the vibe of the 70s Jazz bass.
I will post a picture of the pair when all upgrades are done.

I know what you mean. My CAR JO4 came with a mint guard and I didn't think it went with the CAR at all. I bought a white pearl one from Jeannie's Pickguards and it looks great.
