A Cold Day in Hell

The only time G.A.S. is good is if you really need it for a gig or a specific project. Other than that, it's simply wistful thinking - which is in its own right something we like to do. Just ruminating from my own experience.

I enjoy being a kid in the candy store, but Wednesday was a day where I found myself asking why? What am I going to gain? In the case of the Spectorcore, do I honestly like this bass. Is this a bass, I will be tired after I have it at home for a week, and I can really sit down and play it?

I honestly don’t know why you really “need” a 2nd fretless ... I mean that Pedulla...fughetaboutit.
Seems like you got everything you need.

I have three basses, my L2500, a FrankenFretless Jazz V will MM pickups, and a Squier VM Jazz V with Apollo pickups and 2-band STC Blackout Preamp that sounds absolutely amazing.
The only reason I want to build another Jazz is because I have Fender Marcus Miller pickups, Rudy Pensa preamp, and all other necessary hardware in a box waiting for a body and neck, and I’d like to put it all to use. But after that, I’m done.
I no longer have the Pedulla, 2020 has been a bad year for my gear. The good news is that I love the Yamaha I found in GC a month ago. My Glarry still punches above its weight too.

For a long time now, I've felt that those "entry level" Yamahas are best bang for the buck in their price bracket.
I have one that came with an amp I bought on craigslist years ago. It was in rough shape and I just meant to clean it up, give it a setup, and flip it for a little extra cash... once it was set up though, it played great! Actually ended up using if for a few months of touring! Full disclosure though, I did put a Novak Bisonic pickup in it. Since then, I actually ended up de-fretting it and replaced the Bisonic with a big Bartolini humbucker. Still my go-to fretless.

Isn't it the truth? At some point you just come to the realization that more gear would just confuse things and add to the pile of stuff. To that end, if a nice P bass came up I'd consider it, but my bases are pretty much covered. Drums, I have too many drum sets, and cymbals and stands, but I just sold my concurrent serial number Ludwig Vistalites that I would never play out anymore due to their primo condition. That being the case, time to sell.

Actually, you are more like a reverse Tiny Tim. You like everything you see in the toy store, but, unlike Tim, you can have them.

I played that Spectorcore I have on layaway again, and I have come to the conclusion that I don’t want it. I like my fretless Yamaha with the EMG split pickup better. I could buy something else, but I think I will just get a refund, if the store charges me a restocking fee, cool. It’s funny, I was at GC and checked out a bunch of stuff, including a nice Sandberg, and I don’t want anything. My Geddy, Yamaha, and other basses work just fine for me, I am going to keep my money in my pocket.
G. A. S. Is a cruel mistress. :rollno:
