A Cold Day in Hell

I played that Spectorcore I have on layaway again, and I have come to the conclusion that I don’t want it. I like my fretless Yamaha with the EMG split pickup better. I could buy something else, but I think I will just get a refund, if the store charges me a restocking fee, cool. It’s funny, I was at GC and checked out a bunch of stuff, including a nice Sandberg, and I don’t want anything. My Geddy, Yamaha, and other basses work just fine for me, I am going to keep my money in my pocket.
I feel the same way about an old SX fish hook head stock P bass I have. I wanted to get a nice Road Worn P bass to do a Jamerson thing to it but the cost was prohibited for me. So, I went home and looked at the SX at hand and tried to see what I could do to make it close. I comfied up the neck, changed out the ceramic pickup to some kind of Fender 60's joint, added pickup and bridge covers and mute. La Bella 1954 flats and, the prerequisite tort pick guard :) Is it as nice, no but, for my level of abilities it's fine and gets me the tone I was after :)

Dare I pose an alternative, if not for you then for those in a similar position who may stumble upon this thread. I keep a significant portion of my "fun" money in a brokerage account and seeing not only the account value go down, but the expected return go down as well, is usually enough to stave off any GAS attacks. This, coupled with the typical 2 day transfer delay, usually ensures every musical purchase is calculated since I can see how much it will cost me now and later. It's been a blessing to my impulsivity since I would gladly indulge myself with some bass related retail therapy when things are not great, which is the trend of this whole year.

That sounds like a nice New Years resolution!

Now you have the bread to go with the cheese.

I hate to ask for a refund because the manager at this store has been very nice to me. Fortunately, this bass was not a special order, like my Geddy. It is a used bass.
I suspect, to the manager, you are a special customer and he knows that the refund may very well go to a new purchase, down the road.

I was looking at my receipt, I may not be able to get a refund. If cannot, I may get that T-40 they have because I could probably flip it pretty or easy or I may get this bass since it is something I always wanted but never seriously thought about buying:

ABC, 123, that's how good, tone can be...

Seriously Doc, that Squier 50's P sounds very good. If you can't get a refund, buy it. Get your Motown on...

That is a beautiful place to be. Congratulations on gaining that self knowledge.

I thought this was going to be a thread on the the recent snowfall in the northeast USA.

I haven't played nearly as many basses as you Dr. Cheese, but I have played enough to know that the basses I have are very good. Anything else I GAS after will just be minor differences in sound and playability so I'm better off just trying to make myself a better player.

For me I've got most basses covered. Something old-school (P), something modern and active (SR1200) something fretless, and something a little silly (8-string). Sure, I see other basses like hollow bodies and think "that'd be nice" but the reality is that anything new or different isn't going to make me sound or play much different.
