A Little Roscoe Fun

More glorious Walnut on reserve for me in Greensboro! This is a thin top, and it is currently available for a Standard Plus build! I'll let it ride for a couple/few months giving folks a chance to grab it for their own order... if that doesn't happen, then I'll eventually turn it into a stock piece.

This is a one-piece top, and the flame figure looks pretty intense. It should make a BEA-YOO-TEE-FUL bass.

I'm guessing there isn't a sonic difference between the dark and light fretless boards? I think I'd like a lighter board to contrast the darker walnut top...if I were to do something with a walnut top.

I've been thinking I'd go mahogany for a fretless as I liked it a lot in my last one, but as I look at the wood descriptions:

Mahogany - full, fat, strong
Spanish Cedar - Similar to Mahogany, a little smoother, more acoustic in tone, a bit lighter

So, I wonder (as I would use this in "upright" situations for jazz gigs) as well as just general fretless stuff in church) if I should consider Spanish Cedar for it's more "acoustic" properties. I also want to keep the bass light. My fretted 5 Ash/Koa is under 8 pounds.

Steve, I have a Roscoe LG standard 5 fretless that weighs 7.4 lbs! Amazing—it almost floats. It has Spanish cedar body, quilted maple top, unlined pau ferro board. It has a VERY woody sound, very upright sounding especially playing in the mid positions. It might be up for sale since I have another fretless from Roscoe coming soon.

I'm kind of a Century guy but you never know.

I made a trip to Greensboro yesterday, and I ended up ordering 10 new Roscoes! What a fun way to spend your day. Some of the new orders will use existing tops I had on hold and posted on my site, and some others will use new tops. I also added a couple Standards with no tops.

You can see all of my open Roscoe orders here: http://www.rocketmusic.net/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&category=ROSO&keywords=all

And here are some of the new tops I picked out yesterday for Standard Plus orders:

Wow! Beautiful tops Greg!

You ordered 10 Roscoe's Wednesday?!!! Once again, you are the man for Roscoe's!:)

I really like that headless Roscoe too! IMO it looks much better with the full body style.
