A Little Roscoe Fun

I'm guessing there isn't a sonic difference between the dark and light fretless boards? I think I'd like a lighter board to contrast the darker walnut top...if I were to do something with a walnut top.

I've been thinking I'd go mahogany for a fretless as I liked it a lot in my last one, but as I look at the wood descriptions:

Mahogany - full, fat, strong
Spanish Cedar - Similar to Mahogany, a little smoother, more acoustic in tone, a bit lighter

So, I wonder (as I would use this in "upright" situations for jazz gigs) as well as just general fretless stuff in church) if I should consider Spanish Cedar for it's more "acoustic" properties. I also want to keep the bass light. My fretted 5 Ash/Koa is under 8 pounds.

The three most awesome sounding Fretless basses I've ever experienced (to my ear) were all made from the same receipt (ash, Bubinga, etc.). The wood sets the tone.

I just ordered a matched pair of basses using these Koa tops that are consecutive cuts from the same Koa board. One fretted, one fretless!

I'm personally trying to figure out a way I can convince the wife that I need the P/J 6 string Standard Plus that Greg has in stock. After getting Gard's old 6 string, I've kinda rekindled an old flame for playing 6's again. And I'd really like a P/J for the new/modern country band that I'm now in, too (at least that's how I'm justifying in in my head---even though any one of my basses works just fine in it)

Lots of love for the 6 lately Ryan. ;-)

I still kind of wish that a 6 worked for me as Roscoe 6's are so amazing but I'll have to get by with my 5's. My "two weeks" starts soon for my new fretless.

Yeah, I'm really enjoying playing Gard's old 6. My ONLY complaint with that bass is the lower output of the Nordstrand Fatstacks compared to the rest of my basses. It really messes with my in-ear mix when I switch basses. SO, it might end up getting a pickup transplant.........

I'm about to join a modern country band out of your area, Steve (or at least fill in with them to see if I want to make it a permanent thing). Nasty Habit just flat out doesn't do crap over the winter months, and I'm sick of only having one gig a month lately. So, I'm really thinking that a P/J 6 would be a the hot ticket for a band like that, if I decide it's something I want to stick with. Like I said, it's an excuse to buy a new bass......
