On another forum I frequent, someone made a post saying how they think they are going to switch from guitar to bass, because they think their guitar playing is getting stale and that playing bass will let them have more fun on stage since they don't have to concentrate as much.

They also included a picture of their current bass setup.

Re: "...don't have to concentrate as much..." -- my wife has been playing and teaching guitar for nearly 30 years; she's awesome. Normally, I'm the bassist in the family, but for an upcoming gig, we're covering I Can't Hold Back by Survivor, and for a lot of complicated (mostly logistic) reasons, I'm covering the acoustic guitar and she's playing bass on the track. It's an easy line to play, of course, but she remarked several times on just how much more there is to playing bass than just hitting the notes - the constant muting, different attacks for different percussive notes, playing in front of vs. on vs. behind the beat, etc - I have a feeling a lot of guitarists think that playing bass is inherently 'easier' - less strings, less fast runs, etc - and this has lead to a lot of bassist out there who are bassists because they weren't good enough to play guitar well (or as well as they wanted to). I believe a lot of them learn that there's a difference in playing bass and playing bass well, and if you didn't play guitar well, you probably ain't going to be a bass virtuoso, either. If the guy is expecting to 'not concentrate as much', I doubt he'll be moving any butts (butt activity is the measure of proper bass playing, as we all know).

I have my biases like everyone else. Personally, I'd rather hear someone play on a two string bass than a 6 or 7 string bass. Don't kill me!

couldent help but notice that "AWESOME" red guitar hes got over there. im sure hes quite the player. with those two strings on that bass, im sure he makes some great music.
