Since almost none of you have ever played threw a Acoustic, keep your lame negative comments too yourself.

Trust me if you buy a " PRO " Bass amp for 5 grand you will not talk krap and end up being a proud Blue Snob.

Plus your Roadies will love you because a Acoustic W Bin is WAYYYYY lighter than a boat anchor 8x10 and its WAYYYYYYY louder with half the power.

I have heard and Played both amps and have heard them on very large outdoor stages.....Acoustic eats Ampeg for Lunch.

I'm not really sure who you aiming your "comments" at, but I assure you, I was playing through (not threw) Acoustic Control Corporation amps LONG before they were fashionable. I STILL carry a 370 as a trusted backup to my Ampeg rig.

We're having a little fun here. Quit taking yourself so seriously...:rollno:

I own both and rarely turn the vintage 360/361 on. Remember that Russ Alee designed the original back in the sixties. He's also the one that has designed the new 360/361 now in the 2000's. 40 years to perfect ......... perfection?

yeah, i knew that, but a folded 18" with a horn is not my idea of state of the art, or "perfection".

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that it could be a great sounding cab. But really, I'm so out of the volume wars game that either one of them would do the job for me without breaking a sweat, and I couldn't care less which one gets louder. I'm sticking with Ampeg, but now that Flea's onboard, expect people who would have never bought one to buy one. That's pretty big in endorsement world. Flea's endorsement sells gear.

Couldn't agree more! Flea WILL sell a lot of gear for George. However, I fear that the people who will buy the gear will be old farts like you and me.....$5,000 a pop is probably out of the range of most "normal" kids.....True...that's MSRP and maybe you can get say 10% knocked off the price, but still....

If memory serves - the 360/361 that I had my eyes on in '68 was something in the range of $1,395 (that was a fortune then!) and I had to resort to playing a couple of them in backlines when opening for guys like Iron Butterfly, Vanilla Fudge and the like. Man they Rocked!! :D

I'm just thrilled to death to see George's vision come to pass. :D

It's actually about tone, not volume. If you want volume, the Bugera BTX 36000 "The Nuke" is 3600 watts.

I played through both as a kid. On stage I liked the Ampeg better because you could hear it so well there vs. the Acoustic rig. However, once in front of the stage, the Acoustic was more memorable... or at least the way this creaky memory works!

Personally, it didn't matter as I couldn't afford either, and I went on "tour" w/my V4B rig instead, which I could almost afford. Later I picked up a smaller Acoustic head & cab (140/402) and loved it for many years for blues club work.

Bottom line, two great amp companies that changed bass amplification forever in the early '70's (thank god!).

Hey Tube, hows is it going in Sicily I think your question got a little lost in translation.

I think your trying to ask what a folded horn is?

The Acoustic W bin is a horn loaded cabinet.

Basically if you think of a long big cone or horn that you can yell into. It makes your voice sound louder.

So a folded horn speaker is basically a big horn that has been folded up to fit in a cabinet. Which will make a single speaker louder or have more sensitivity.

The Acoustic W Bin is more like 2 folded horns split in half so it looks more like a W shape. Using a single 18" speaker which faces towards the rear and fires into the mouth of the horns.

A horn speaker can increase the sensitivity of a speaker or speakers...say a speaker has a sensitivity of 98dB the same speaker in a horn can jump up to 106 to 115dB depending on the size of the horn.

this would be a side view of the inside of the cabinet.
and the Blue arrows start at the mouth of the horn in front of the speaker cavity, and show how the sound travels out of the horn.

If ya can't beat em, join em. I use a 301 and a squareback 810 on stage. The 810 gets the mic, the 301 takes care of the rest!

Well over a year ago, in thread that ended up getting locked, I offered to give an honest evaluation of the sound. No one took me up on the offer. (Other than one person via PM.) Instead, I was called a liar and a shill, even though I'd made it clear that they weren't my cuppa' (and had received several emails from George complaining about things I'd already written).

As a result of the treatment I received, I swore I'd never again discuss Acoustic USA on TB. I've softened my stance a bit now that the stuff is finally shipping. But.......

You want to know how they sound? Spend the money and find out for yourselves. Mine was a one-time-only offer.
