Sure that's his reason?In other news-my Guitarist seems set on a female bass player for our band(i am Lead singer).
He says so she can sing harmony or something. Surely finding a female bass player is rare, one that wants to play in a 80's rock band with a bunch of old guys is close to seeing a unicorn with a rainbow cape.
I tend to judge peeps on playing ability and harmonies regardless of gender.
OH unless they have a cool Fender bass(but that's another thread).

Man, X10. I always played horribly after smoking pot. I used to smoke a lot in my 20s, but never before a gig. Now I don't smoke at all, but the rest of the band are all stoners, other than the guitarist. I'll have some drinks are practice, which is as much hang as practice with us, but I won't have more than a few while gigging. After I step off stage sometimes I'll get into the bottle some.
I've never had a band care I did/didn't use whatever substances, only that everyone be sober when it's time to work and not be a drama case coke head or anything that made their lives difficult, etc.
Thanks for saying this! I've been in this band for some months now, and find myself wondering if it'll go anywhere at all, because progress has been slow. But now that I look at it from your angle, I realize my bandmates and I are oddballs that have unusual strenghts and weaknesses, and may eventually grow into a unique band where everything and everyone fits together. Thank you for a new point of view.

Likley we will never see any female bass players and he will give up this folly. However, who knows -maybe we get some Awesome bass diva and soar to the drunken heights of bar band glory! either way it works out(as these things often do).
I dunno, diva isn't a word I usually associate with positive things... Lol.
Tbh I just want to make angry music, which is suprisingly hard to do sometimes. Oh well, jamming with some new folks Sunday so who knows what'll happen there.

It just gets harder and harder to do angry if you mellow as you age.

Not quite the same as the mainland though. I can remember a British officer who, upon learning that his unit had been selected to put the then-new Scorpion family of light armored vehicles through their paces in Australia, rejoiced with his platoon because they'd be able to drive the new vehicles to Sidney every weekend to party. It was only later that he learned the drive was actually over 5,000 kilometers. As we say in Tennessee, that's a fur piece! (And as they say in Great Britain, that's Kyrgyzstan!)
Weird that you can't find female bass players in Austin, I'd have thought there would be oodles of them. The totally awesome Dominique Davalos is headquartered in Austin. (She's not actually available, just sayin' she should have spawned lots of imitators/inspired lots of female bass players. is already pretty limiting here in these parts. Throw in a gender caveat and we can setup our band beneath the blue moon.

In my opinion, 'normal' is highly overrated.
Okay, I don't know the proper expression to express good luck to someone hoping to find like-minded musicians to make angry music, but whatever it might be, consider it expressed.
I think it settles into some nice aged cynicism and sadness later on. Ether way music is a much more constructive outlet than some crap I did in the past.

The first "real" band I was in had two female singers. Turns out the bass player (I played guitar then) and one of the singers were both married, but not to each other, and were involved in a little hanky panky. That broke up that band. So stuff does happen.
Another band, the bass player and the female singer were married, so no biggie there.
Another band I was in, the singer was female and one of the most smoking hot ladies I had ever seen. We had an amazing chemistry on stage, but there was no real attraction there at all, we just clicked musically. My wife never gave it a thought.
It's a shame that jealousy keeps good musicians from playing together.

Oh yes, music is pretty wholesome pass time (genre dependent). There's hope for us aging, I know a guy in his 80s who is neither bitter or sad. A good role model.
As time goes on, the male/macho band image is starting to look more and more pathetic. I more than welcome a more diverse group and really prefer it to be that way where possible.
Personally I only highly value diversity of thought. Beyond that, I'm agnostic - four dudes, four ladies, four trannies, four one-legged pan-sexual autistic Jewish half-Samoan eskimos, I don't care. I care only about the music you make. Hell, assemble one example of every one of Facebook's 57 genders and if the music is good (and the stage large enough) I'm fine with that too. I don't want to hear about your politics, or your kids, or your plan to colonize Mars; I just want good music. Diversity "might" help achieve that if people can contribute thinking and experiences that otherwise would be missed, but IMO far too often diversity is presented as its own virtue. People are first and foremost individuals, and collecting them according to arbitrary categories is IMO a fundamental affront to that.
