Aerosmith Sticker shock!

I hate to say this…

Live music is slowly diminishing and this ridiculous prices are adding to it.

Aerosmith are the big hero’s in my town and it goes right over my head…I never got it and I never will.

I have it on some authority that blocks of tix go to corporations, who can use it as a tax write-off. "Entertainment" for clients, etc. And the prices will keep going up until people just say NO MORE.

And sure, there are the diehard fans who'd pay (almost?) anything to see their idols. Apart from seeing a band I like, and I just couldn't justify paying THAT, I'm pretty much off live shows anyway, unless I am familiar with the venue that has fairly good acoustics. An arena does NOT have good acoustics, no matter how many panels they put up IMNSHO. That and the crowds.... And the overpriced concessions.... Seriously, I'm done until the FOH guy takes OFF his headphones and mixes for THE ROOM, not so much the recording. But that's just me and my impression of the last bunch of shows I've attended.

But I expect to hear from some buds who payed the price about what a wonderful show I missed, etc., etc. I''m happy for you, bro, but I'll satisfy my GAS and have $$ left over. I can hear the band with more fidelity and a boatload cheaper on a CD.

I saw Aerosmith around 2007. I prob paid around $400 for a pair of good seats. It was a decent show but I have definitely seen much better for the same money. I wouldn't go again for that price again. I like their music but I'm not a loyal fan. I think they will have no problems selling out many venues at inflated prices. Like it or not the touring income stream is all that is left for musicians so they will charge what they want to / need to to make it worth while. This may be the last chance to see them as a group live. I'm sure that comes into play with the ticket pricing also. I don't mind paying the $$ to see those bands I want to see but the acts I want to see are fewer and farther between. They're getting older and so am I.

Just a little math;

Let’s say a person of average income ($59,500 in US as of Aug. 2023) will pay $100 to see a concert. That’s not a cheap ticket, but it’s not a front row seat, either. That works out to 0.17% of the of the average income.

For a $5000 ticket to end up at 0.17% of an income, the income has to be $2,941,176.

I looked around for some info on how many in the USA earn $3 million annually. I couldn’t find it, but 0.1% of the US makes $1 million a year. That’s still over 330,000 people. My guess is that there’s probably less than 100,000 people that make $3 mil a year. I doubt there are many $5000 tickets. Maybe 10 or 15? Whatever the case, $5000 is a high priced concert ticket….

Yeah is very high but nobody is forced to pay it I guess. I get what your doing with the percentages, but once you hit a certain level of income it doesn't matter if you make 1 million or 2. Depends on where you live, but outside of the most expense cities, life gets easier past about 80k of income, from my experience.

I don't think I've ever calculated the cost of a concert ticket as percentage of my income though. Most I think my wife and I have spent on a 1-day concert all inclusive is about $1000.

I bought one seat for November at the LA Forum:
1. Wanted to say I saw Aerosmith. (Last good album was Rocks)
2. Wanted to see the refurbished Forum.
3. Last available seat was behind the stage. I'm not sure I am even in the arena. (It looks like I may be sitting on top of a trash can on the concourse.)

Saw them back in the day a few times. Good show/fun show…. Not 5 grand good at any stretch of the imagination.
I go to much less concerts now and my price limit is about $70-$80. It just seems like a chore anymore.
The $16.00 beers and $22.00 drinks are just flat out ridiculous and I don’t mess with them.

These kinds of prices always go WAY down as the event gets closer. Same thing happened with Springsteen recently. If you’re willing to wait a few days before the show (or the day of), you can score great deals.

Up to $5000 to see a band fronted by one of the world's most annoying singers?? No thanks...:rollno: :eyebrow:

(Note I didn't say he's a bad singer...but I find his mannerisms, personality, and histrionic (?) performance style pretty grating...)
