I don't understand what she was doing on stage. From the video, she was there for a while before he decked her. Where was security?

There's no way I'm going to defend what that guitarist did, because it was completely unacceptable in any kind of society I want to live in. I will defend the audience and her boyfriend, assuming the guy who got up on stage after she went down was her boyfriend. For a number of reasons, I'm not too concerned about my macho credentials, especially on the internet. And, I'm pretty sure I would have been just as stunned by what happened as the rest of the audience. It would have taken a while before it even registered, since that kind of thing is not at all what is expected. It's the same reason people don't see things if they are looking for something else. As far as attacking the guy? Why bother. The main thing was to get the drunk girl out of any additional harm's way and deal with whatever injuries she had. The guy who hit her will have issues to deal with, and clearly does now. Why pick a fight with him when you have more important things to deal with, like a potential serious injuries to the drunk girl? The guy who got on stage had is priorities straight.

Here is a fresh video from a different angle. You can see she really came down hard on the drum riser. If she had hit it the sharp riser corner with the back of her head she probably would be dead. Warning: Who ever posted this video put stupid ghetto sound effects to it.

But in the first video he does nothing for quite awhile because she is not all that close to him...

In the second video you can see that she has now suddenly moved right in close, inches away from him.....and then he reacts.....

Security should have had her off there long before this....

There are whacko men..and there are whacko women.......when somebody suddenly moves in on you like that while you're onstage, be it either sex, are you going to stop and have a polite conversation with them as to what their intentions are?

What exactly would YOU do when some stranger is on stage and has moved in so close that possible harm could come to you?

I believe you have a point. On the other hand, she was there for a while before she moved in. Presumably, he knows she is there and does not seem to care. So the question is, would a reasonable person sense this as a threat?

If a person is onstage goofing around some distance away..that is one thing.
But when that person orbitally closes the distance so they end up less than striking distance from you....that is another.......

From that angle you can see he knows exactly what he's doing, even pushed the follow through to bring her down.

I can guarantee you this isn't the first time he's clocked a woman.

1. There is no defending what was done here in any capacity
2. He didnt do this because he was high on weed

This is the best way handle it when girl(s) want to come onstage and dance. The band went with it and made it entertaining. I am willing to bet that any of the band members that wanted to get laid that night did. Heck, one chick is even kissing the bass player. How often does that happen? Just sayin.

The woman shouldn't have been on stage, we can all agree. But it was shaged up to sucker punch the woman.

And speaking only for myself, if this was somebody I knew, a family member or friend, my first thought isn't throwing
fists. My first thought is to go help the person who got hit.

Well I guess I'm gonna be a voice in the unpopular crowd. I've had people come up on stage during a gig before. For the majority of incidents, it has just been an annoying drunk guy or girl who tries to grab the mic. It's annoying, for sure, but you can usually get rid of them fairly easily. The other times, however, I've seen several thousands of dollars worth of gear get destroyed, I've seen my band mates get groped, I've been groped, I've had band mates get verbally assaulted from on stage, I've had a singer get knocked off a 6ft. stage, I've almost been knocked off stage, etc... You're talking about some potential hazards when people jump on stage who don't belong there, and you don't always know what they're going to do (ie. the Dimebag incident). I do think Afroman overreacted, but I can't completely hate on Afroman for doing what he did.

Context is everything. If the dude had taken even 30 seconds to see what was going on, he would have known she wasn't a thread and didn't need to be assaulted.

Yes they did, pretty quickly after, like by the end of the song. It seems there was the "wait a minute... what just happened?" surprise and confusion, and then "what do we do now?", and then "stop the show, get the cops on the phone." Took a couple of minutes but apparently no more than that.

Well, for one thing, if I were giving a performance in a room full of dancing college-age kids, and someone slipped up close to me from behind, I probably would not jump to the conclusion that it was a thug about to kill me. For another, I might turn around and look to see who was there. Someone bumps you from behind, you don't instantly clock them, you turn around and see who's bumping you. From the videos, and what's plausible from his statements, I think he was pretty much oblivious to his surroundings, and reacted violently and without thinking when someone pierced his bubble. And since he went right back to playing without skipping a beat, I think he was still out of touch with reality. I don't think it was premeditated, that he prowls around looking for girls to beat up, but it shows an inexcusable failure to be aware of his surroundings and respond appropriately.
