OK, I tried my friends Victor Bailey Jazz, which I noticed is an MIA ..... and Yeah. this one is the dogs bollocks...
Are doggy balls a good thing or a bad thing? Confused by the context of the metaphor.
Well if it's a good thing then I have a 2008 Fender P5 Standard that I would say is the dog's bullocks... if not, then I retract my previous statement.
I haven't had 8 of them but the 3 I did own were outstanding fit, finish and playability. The ibanezes that I owned were just ok but always needed a fret dressing and the electronics left a lot to be desired but that was just my experience. YMV.

The only Ibanez I owned for a significant amount of time was an Ibanez BTB 676, I really liked the bass but it was extremely heavy. When I sold it after a couple years of heavy use, the frets were cracking and showed considerable amount of use. I discussed this with other Ibanez users and they all had garbage frets in theirs, including J team models. My Fender Standard P I bought new 10 years ago has seen far more use and the frets look like new.
So I guess my opinion differs from the OP... although he is right about too many Fenders humming, heck I have heard it commonly referred to as "the Fender hiss". The worst part is that Fender refuses to acknowledge it as a problem, I have had gold certified techs tell me you cannot do anything about and just have to live with it... :/

I too own some USA Fenders which I think are Doggy Balls.
As are my Japanese ones.
And my Mexican ones., too Actually those are technically Cajones del Perro
Not to say I haven't had some lousy Fenders too. Law of large numbers. They make a bunch of stuff so you are going to find some duds, but overall I get a lot of use out of my Fenders.
me either because all of my Fender Jazz basses have and has had the obligatory neck gap and they all sounded and played great.
My Fenders and Ibanez' have been equally eventful in minor factory slip-ups but equally great playability once given the final 1% touch. Why are people so insecure about their bass purchases/ Hopefully you don't second-guess your choices in women/men the same way. There is therapy and medication for those persistent, troubling thoughts. More affordable then ever thanks to our POTUS.

In the past when I hadn't been won over by the brand, I'd tried some pretty lousy one's, I guess it was just bad luck when I tried them out. I had A/B'd them to budget brands such as Cort and Squier in a local music store and could find any noticeable differences in playability, tone or craftsmanship. But like you say, when there is a large quantity of production you are bound to get some rough gems amongst the fine cut diamonds.
